BM dresses

BM dresses

This one may be a bit long...so sorry in advance, but I have a couple of dress related questions, and I know you fabulous brides have the best answers!
First, my wedding is in a year and four months. Is it too early to order bridesmaid dresses? I really want to book flowers but heard that you should decide on BM dresses before you choose flowers.

Second, I am loving Mori Lee and *** Solano, as they have beautiful dresses and are reasonably priced. What are some good stores to check out that have a big selection and good prices? I'm in Queens so I really don't want to have my girls travel further than like mid Nassau to get them.

Third, has anyone heard of My Daughter's Wedding in Great Neck? Any opinions?

And last but not least, do you have to get alterations done at the place where you purchase the dresses or can you go wherever you want?

Thanks in Advance!!!! I hope everyone has an AMAZING holiday and some well deserved time off!

I can't say much about this b/c I am in the same boat as you!

However since I have been a BM a lot (lol) the only time I got my dress altered by some place other then where I ordered the dress, is when I was a BM in another state.

My 2 friends who have gotten married here in NY both used Lilette's and I got my dresses altered there. I think it has to do with the kind of deal you strick w/ the dress shop.

Honestly, it's really up to you and your girls on when you want to order them. I wouldn't order them this early but I change my mind like I change my clothes.

You do not need to have your BM dresses altered at the place you order them from. In fact, many BM dresses don't need to be altered at all. I'm not sure if RK Bridal in the city carries those lines, but chances are they do. I'd go there and check it out. You can even order through the 'no frills' program (which I used myself for a BM dress) where you bring in your measurements and order the size you want. They don't measure you or do alterations and you can't try on the dress at the store when you pick it up but you can get a good deal. It sounds like you have a seamstress you want to use for alterations anyway so you could have the BMs get measured by them before ordering the dresses.

Another place to check out is Alexandra Boutique in Forest Hills. They have a small bridal section, but mostly BM dresses. They were great to work with and gave us a really good price.

HTH!

ETA: Have you purchased your dress yet? If not, I'd wait until after purchasing your dress to order BM dresses so they kinda have the same feel. Besides, BM dresses take about 6-12 weeks to come in so you have lots of time!

Also, I checked RK's website, they do carry Mori Lee. I didn't see M*I*A Solano listed but you can always give them a call.

Very very good point! Something I honestly didn't think about! I was just so ready to do flowers because they are a big expense, and for some reason I had it in my head that I needed BM dresses before I did flowers. But now it's all falling into place lol

I didn't book my florist until about 3 months before my wedding, but you do not need to have ordered your BM dresses before booking a florist.

My sister booked her florist before she chose her BM dresses. When she met with the florist, she discussed ideas she had for color scheme for the RH, her bo-k and the BMs bo-ks. She also discussed how many CPs she anticipated needing.

After she chose the BM dresses, the colors for the BMs' bo-ks changed. It was no big deal. She just spoke with the florist again and gave him a swatch to work with.

Haha somehow it always seems to fall together just right. You'll figure out the best way to work it for you!

Geez, I haven't booked my florist yet, I should get on that, huh?

I would really advise against M*a Solano. They used to be part of Ralyia, but they split and both lines have been having problems with ownership. I worry that they may go under and you may be stuck without dresses.

Mori Lee, on the other hand, have been in business for decades and are very trustworthy.

ITA with waiting until you have your gown to get the BM dresses. You def want the dresses to flow together somehow (if possible). Also, flowers are a lot of times one of the last things that brides book...so I wouldn't worry about having the book the florist soon. Technically you don't NEED BM dresses before the florist. I've already booked my florist and have not picked out BM dresses yet.

I think as long as you are sure about your colors and the type of bridesmaids gown that you are leaning towards for your girls, it shouldn't be a problem. Just remember that once you pick your flowers, be sure that that's what u want....

You could always change your flowers after you book also (just make sure you double check with the florist you book). My florist said that I can make any changes I want to my flowers up until about 2 weeks before my wedding.
