My wedding is about a year from now, but I'm curious how far in advance should I have my BM's order their dresses? I don't want them to do it too early just in case their weight changes too much. TIA!

I think you can order them 6 months before. I'm actually getting married a month after you and I'm going to go in August with my girls just to get it out of the way...

We are getting married in Feb and ordered in May because Bari Jay dresses take 3-4 months to come in. So they will be in in August, which gives the girls plenty of time to get fittings and alterations done!!

I ORDERED MINE ALREADY B/C I FELL IN LOVE WITH SOMETHING AND IF IT GETS DISCONTINUED THERE IS REALLY NOTHING ELSE OUT THERE THAT WILL BE SIMILAR...BARI JAY TAKE 3-4 MONTHS TO EVEN COME IN SO I WANTED TO GET THE BALL ROLLING..

the only reason I wouldnt wait til 3 months before is that youre not giving much time for mistakes. Sometimes the wrong color or dress or size is ordered and they have to rush another one over.
Ordering earlier also gives the girls time for alterations, etc.
I'm also a nervous person so I would freak if everything wasnt in on time

I had a surprising 'bridezilla' moment when my BM was saying about waiting until 3 mos before...I was like 'You will order the dress when I say so!' haha whoa Thank you all for your input - I feel much better now

my MOH is coming up to buffalo tomorrow so we are going down to the davids here (awesome service here btw :o) ) to go finalize my choice of dress and even though they usually get them in pretty quick i'd rather them order it soon and have it than wait till next year and chance it being disscontinued or come in wrong and have a problem this time next year.

I think it all depends on the dress you're ordering and where you're ordering it from. We ordered the dresses in May because I was told that POB dresses are backordered at 17 weeks right now, so I didn't want to take any chances. Also, I know certain salons charge a rush fee if you don't leave a certain amount of time prior to your wedding. I remember a few years ago I had to pay an additional $50 for a dress bc we went in May and the wedding was in October.

i went the first weekend of June to look at dresses and of course i got the 'wow, you're early'..
i dont want to rush myself next year..plus we're just looking to see what my girls like

3 months is definitely not enough time, IMO! I wouldn't wait any longer then 6 months before. Like one of the previous posters said, you need to leave extra time for the unknown and some designers take longer then others. GL

I did this too!! I am getting married a day before you!! :)
I would say at least 6 months before the wedding would be enough time...I wouldn't do it any later than that. A lot of the stores I went to for bm dresses all told me to order them so they can be in for the end of November. They all take anywhere from 3-6 months depending on the designer - its been taking longer because a lot of the dresses are made overseas in china and the earthquake backed up the production. Also, there are a few days/weeks the designers are closed in Dec and Jan because of the holidays.....so you dont want to take any chances of them coming in late. And also, g'd forbid they are wrong, you need time to send them back or reorder / fix something.
