So, I know that I want my girls to wear long black dresses, but I haven't picked a dress yet. My issue is that all the girls styles are SO different. I am thinking of doing a long, satin, strapless, sweetheart neck style, fitted and a little sexy. (similary to what Kim K wore at Khloe's wedding, but black).
My FH's one sister is very 'bohemian/free style' type and I feel like it would be SO out of her element to wear this...
I was thinking of telling the girls (5 total) they can pick their dresses, they just have to be black and floor length.
Any thought on this? Anyone else doing this? I want to make sure I'm 100% OK with having everyone in a different dress before I tell them. Another concern is all the blacks will be different shades.
Please give me opinions!! Thanks ladies!!!

BM dresses - once color, diff styles?
There is nothing wrong with this, I know some people that have done that. One suggestion though, pick a designer and a store the girls have to order from that way they are all the same. Even though black is black, some designers may have a slightly different shade which may look off when they are standing together. One of my friends that did this picked Bill Levkoff and told the girls they could pick any chiffon dress in the color she chose. Good luck!

That's what we are doing- Since you are doing black, you could even let them choose different designers as well. We are doing a plum color, so I had the girls pick short chiffon dresses from bill levkoff so that I knew they would all be the exact same color.
I think letting the girls pick their own dress is a really good idea. My FH's younger sister is very boho (works at urban outfitters, lives in brooklyn, wears very flowy skirts/tops/dresses) and his other sister is very simple and would probably get a plain strapless dress. Then I have a friend who is a size 0 and another who is a 20-something, so picking different dresses is the perfect way for the girls to all feel comfortable on your wedding day

We did the exact same thing!! I picked the designer, color and fabric. All of the girls went and picked whatever dress they wanted. We're also doing Bill Levkoff plum in chiffon.

If you are going to do this, like others said, I'd pick the designer color and fabric. So there is some continuity there.

Yup we are picking one color and fabric and letting everyone pick a dress that fits them and their personality.

This is what I did. All the girls picked a long dress in Bari Jay's iridescent chiffon. They haven'y come in yet but I'm hoping they look good!

I let my girls pick they're dresses. I said short, coral satin dresses and had them go to David's bridal and pick what they each liked. This way they are all comfortable and happy with what they are wearing.

Thanks ladies, this is probably EXACTLY what I will do! Anyone know of a decent priced designer that offers their dresses in Suffolk County?

This is what I did. All Bill Levkoff chiffon in the same color. The MOH chose a different style than the BM's, who both ended up choosing the same style.

I picked the color, fabric and length but let my girls choose their own styles. I liked this idea do much better instead of being in the same exact dress. I have photos in my albums of what they all picked.
