So I am planning on going home for a weekend to LI and I am having all my BMs meet up and go dress shopping for their dresses. I have an idea of what i want (color and dress length) but i definitely don't have a dress picked out yet.
And I wasn't planning on it! But I've noticed that some of you have them picked out and are just telling the BMs what they are...should I be more prepared? Has anyone just gone shopping and not known 'the dress?'
I honestly just want the dress to be something that my BMs love. that is all I care about...and the color of course....
anyone else feel like i do?

Ummm yeah and I made the mistake of sending my BMs about 70 different dresses, which actually pissed them off!!!
My MOH said to me just pick something and I'll make sure everyone wears it or they die!!
Well I would rather make everyone happy, and it's hard to pick just one among hundreds! You have to keep in mind the body types of your BMs and also the colors some dresses came in. That actually helped me eliminate some designers, because once I knew the color I wanted, I realized some designers just don't carry the color I want.
I would narrow down your material which might help and go from there. You might decide you like chiffon more than satin or vice versa. From there you can go on to sleeves, spaghetti straps, etc.

i think if you know the length and color you'll be fine to go with them for the first time to look. i knew i wanted pink and tea length, so we shifted through the tea length section together and pulled out what we liked, they tried them on and figured it out together with no catfights to speak of. good luck and have fun! ~lacey

Don't worry, you're fine!! I looked at some dresses online and printed out pics of them. Then when my MOH came to go shopping I showed her the dresses so she had an idea of what I was going for.
We went to 3 different places, tried on some dresses at each, and ended up finding one we both loved. Of course, I want all my BMs to be happy so now I'm working on showing them the dress and seeing what they think, so far so good!!

I went BM shopping with a list of about 5 dresses that I loved. Well every single dress on that list was vetoed by my BMs (OK I'll admit that they weren't very flattering!). So it is good to have an idea, but really it is going to depend alot on what your BM feel comfy in/love. The only thing I won't budge on is color - light blue!
I thought I had 'the one' picked out, but now i am second guessing myself. Me and a group of my Bm are going to go again and just try on random dresses I see and like (and see which ones they like!)

Don't worry... I picked out all these dresses I loved and ended up going with one I never even considered! All my girsl LOVED it and so did I!
When I went w/ my girls we all looked through the dresses at the bridal shop and the girls held up the ones they liked to make sure I liked it and they tried them all on and we narrowed it down to 3... then 2... then we picked the one! I found it so helpful to have everyone there w/ diff opinions. Have fun!

I am confused now tho. I love silver but I don't want them too be light that the color doesn't photograph well.
I'm confused.

you can get more of a platinum silver, its a darker 'grey' ish.. it will photograph nicely.

I think you might be safer if you at least had some parameters when you go (either length or color or material), it can be overwhelming (especially if you have a big bridal party). I been in too many weddings & a few girls did this & although the bride was trying to be sweet, she ended up once in tears and the other time I thought the girls were going to come to blows.
I found that sometimes the more outspoken bridesmaid will take charge & the others will tend to agree even if they aren't 100% thrilled.
This time I decided to take my MOH with me & she tried on tons of dresses, 2 different days. We got it narrowed down to 3 dresses & now its up to the rest of my girls.
Whatever you decide to do though I'm sure it will work out.

thanks girls...i feel better now and i just wish i was going to be in town this weekend! b/c i am so excited to go shopping!! too bad it's going to be at least another three weeks till i get there but it will come soon enough.

I went with 4 dresses i liked...I emailed the girls got their opinions, they agreed they liked them but they could have been lying. anyway, we went to the store together and we tried the 4 dresses, we narrowed them down to 2 and then they liked the both we narrowed it down to- so i chose.

Thanks! I think it also depends on the designer. I like Bill Levkoff but I think his color is too light.

I basically knew the length and fabric I wanted. For some reason, I was flexible with color yet we all agreed that NAVY was best for the time of year and it looked good on everyone. I did not have a dress in mind which was fine because they are all wearing different dresses made by the same manufacturer.

Just so you know...i was just as confused. I just went and tried on a lot of dresses with my maid of honor to narrow down what I liked and what I didnt. I actually ended up finding a dress I loved, but wasnt sure how my BM would feel about it. I brought two of them to try it on and they both loved it and looked great in it. I still think its the hardest decision of this whole wedding process so far.... Dont stress, everyone will be looking at you anyway.
