BM issue

BM issue

Okay there is this other unmarried couple that my FH and I are good friends with. We will call them Jane and Steve. We were very close to the both so we of course asked them both to be in the BP. The accepted and things seemed great.
Well Jane and Steve are starting to have problems and we know they are going to be breaking up soon. Jane wants to join the army to pay for her student loan, and because Steve isn't very active career wise, she is starting to break away. She'll most likely either break up right before going to bootcamp, or just send him a dear john. We are all seeing this coming. But now I'm starting not to like jane much. I don't dislike her, but she is starting to annoy me. Let me explain.
Steve for her birthday went out of his way to make a surprise B-day party for her at her favorite bar. He got all their friends there, and a cake and everthing. Well Jane suspected that Steve would be doing something like this and she even bragged to us how she tested him, she told him she wanted to go somewhere else than the place he was taking her. The insisiting until he was forced to tell her. She thinks its funny but it really hurts him because of all the time and money he puts into it. (he works a retail and doesn't make a lot, t his party tapped him) and she ruined it.
At my handfasting she was there and got annoyed at joe, because I asked joe to get something out of the car and yes it was easy to find if he looked, but I didn't know was he really had to use the bathroom, he couldn't find and so I went and got it. Jane give him a dirty look and got me upset because I could just feel the negativity in her. She is in the mist of breaking up and she has been talking me into doing the same thing, lightly.
Mind you she doesn't make much sense to me. She spent a whole lot of money to get this degree in business but wants to get married to become a perment house wife. I don't understand that reasoning. Why go all out and spend so much money on school just to stay at home. I see nothing wrong with stay at home moms, or women who have career, but to give up a career she worked very hard to get, just to give it. Its not like a two yr degree, its a major degree that people work very hard to get. So it makes no sense to me. Guys. I still like her as a person, but she is so nasty lately I don't know if I want her in my BP. I really don't like the way she treats steve at all. She'll physically hurt him and if complains, hes the bad guy. I've seen her do it right in front of us. She thinks its funny. Advise? Oh and don't quote this please, because I'm deleting this.

wow...tough one. perhaps you should wait to see if she enters boot camp in the next few months and then you can un-invite her for sure. while you are just about positive that they will break up....what happens if they don't and you uninvite her and not him? might be a problem. i'd wait just a teeny bit later to uninvite her to be sure...until then try and avoid her as much as you can and put some distance between you guys.

yeah I know. But I think she still wants to be a part of it. I just don't her to be nasty to my FH.

You have a while to your wedding, so I would wait it out a few more months. I would kick her out, if this attitude continues. It doesn't seem like they will be together for long anyway.

Sorry to hear all of this. My MOH was being mean to her Dh and in-laws before their wedding and after I pulled away from her and didn't respond to her calls/emails I told her what was bothering me in an e-mail. I know its not the nicest way to do that but I was able to lay out how I feel without her interrupting me, plus, she gets VERY defensive and I never would have said what I needed to if it was in person.

Maybe you should at least talk to her about it and let her know how you feel- she may be so angry that she can't see how hurtful this is to everyone. Also, you can wait to see how this plays out a little more if you have time. She may be asking for someone to confront her with the weird ways she's been acting. Also, she's been talking to you about you breaking up with your FH? I wasn't clear on that part...

Good luck, I hope it works out!

When my FH were having problems, she was feeding off and trying to push it more for the break up.

I would wait a little while and see what happens. If she actually joins the military, there is a good chance she will be sent overseas, and won't even be in the states to participate in your wedding. There is also a chance that despite everyone thinking they will break up, that they won't.

As for what she did regarding her b-day, I would tell her that you thought it was mean and nasty and that you didn't like it one bit, or at least find a way to talk to her about why she would do such a mean thing, and let her know you didn't like it.

We've learned just recently that she is one of those people who doesn't like her faults being point out at all. She get defensive no matter how nicely you put and will turn it on you. Again she wasn't this bad until she decided to go to the army. She use to be very nice, don't get me wrong some of it was there, but now its all comming out and I'm so upset about what its doing to steve. Hes a sweet heart!

i think you could attribute her actions to stress or maybe unhappiness. you have described a person who seems uncertain about what she wants and is really content with what she has.

unfortunatley though i think you are stuck with her as a brides maid. IMO- unless you have a girl who is sabotaging your wedding and being truly cruel to you i dont think it is justified. i also think (myself included) and that when people start to aggrevate you it tends to snowball and you forget the fact that there was a time when you loved this person enough to ask them 2b in you BP. i think there is something else in her life that it making her act the way she is - i think you just have to let it ride.

good luck - i hope she changes her ways soon.

She sounds like she's having other very serious issues and is so angry she's taking it out on everyone. I think her considering joining the army is a sign that something major is wrong and she is considering running away from her problems. I don't know your friend but if I had to take a guess, I'd say that she is trying to hurt others b/c she is hurting. You don't need that in your BP and regardless of how you felt when you asked her to be your BM, people change and sometimes they change into someone you can't be friends with anymore.

I wouldn't do anything now, wait, but not even being able to talk to her is a problem. I had a friend like that and had to stop talking to her b/c I couldn't let her self destruction bring me or my FH down- she wouldn't let me help her.

I hope it doens't get to that point with your friend. She might prefer to step down anyway if she is having problems. I would be very concerned for her if she was my friend. Sounds like something someone does when they get very bad news (maybe health wise?).

Good luck, and I hope it works out for the best. I hope you can help her, and I hope that she wants and will accept your help.
