ok i have questions I'm not going to ask my only sister to be MOH because she is evil and does not like that i am getting married. shes very bitter. her marriage is falling apart, so there for no one should be happy for me....(in her words) even my mother who is very ill and may not be alive to see my wedding, told me not to ask her. So now i want to ask a friend.. is this acceptable? my wedding is not till oct 2007
second question how early b4 wedding do u ask bm's?
Any good ideas how to? i'm looking for something unique..

Re: BM & MOH
Wow, I'm sorry to hear about your sister. I would definitely ask a friend, or even a cousin you might be close with. As far as when to ask is completely up to you. I felt the need to ask right away because I didn't want anybody to think I wasn't going to ask them, lol. You can plan to take them all out to dinner one day to celebrate your engagement and then ask them all at once. I think that might be cool.

I'm sorry about your sister too, but you should defintely ask someone close to you and someone you know that will be honored to be stand by you on your wedding day. I asked my girls in Jan 2006 and I am getting married April 07. I wish I would have waited longer before asking.

Re: BM & MOH
well you can ask whoever you want to be your MOH...there is nothing written in stone about your sister having to be your MOH...
Will you still have her as your bridesmaid?
as for picking people in your bridal party.....make sure you take the time to really figure out who you want there....you should pick people who have been there in your life and are there to help you...I have heard horror stores about BM dropping out because they were selfish or whatever the case may be...there is no real formal time to ask...ask whenever you want...
once you finalize the bridal party...there are ways of asking....Many people make a card and in the card asking them to be their BM....i told my girls all different ways....card....dinner...drunken night...and one on the phone because she lives far away..it was too hard to bring them all together and to ask them...so i did it separately

Re: BM & MOH
I'm so sorry to hear about the relationship with your sister. Also, I am so sorry to hear about your ill mother. I really hope she gets well soon!
I don't think it would be weird to ask your friend to be your MOH. It should be who you are closest too! My FH asked his best friend to be his BM, not because he isn't close to his brothers, but he has 3 brothers and could not choose one. They were all cool with it though.
As far as when to ask.......well we got engaged last Feb 05 ...... we asked our bridal party shortly after ...... but we knew exactly who we wanted way before. So anytime you want to ask I think would be fine!
Good Luck!

Re: BM & MOH
first im sorry to hear about your mom.......also its not set in stone that you have to have your sister as MOH .....ask whoever you feel it should be.....you can ask them whenever you want .....but many ppl suggest to wait a lil while....and see who is really 'there' for you during the whole scheme of things....good luck with everything

Im not having my only sister as my MOH. She will be 15 when we get married and we really dont get along! I asked my best friend to be MOH. She is someone i have always been able to count on!

Re: BM & MOH
I get along well with my sister and she's still not my maid of honor. She will be my bridesmaid (I'm only having one), but my closest friend will be my maid of honor.
It just felt right that way. My friend is always there for me, and that's what I want in my maid of honor.

Re: BM & MOH
I don't think you need to have your sister as MOH. As far as the time frame to ask your BMs, I think you should ask people as you become sure that you want them in it. If there are people on the fence, wait until you know for sure. Right now I have 6 BMs and FH has 5 GM. He's set on making it even, but he's not sure on the 6th, so we're waiting it out. He asked the other GMs about 2 months ago.

I am so sorry to here about your mom. I will keep her in my prayers. My only suggestion will be to wait a little while to ask you MOH. I dont think you are wrong for asking a friend. I asked mine very early and I have some regrets now.

Re: BM & MOH
SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT YOUR MOM. AS FOR ASKING YOUR SISTER THATS YOUR CHOICE . YOUR MOH SHOULD BE SOMEONE WHO HAPPY FOR YOU. DOESN'T SOUND LIKE YOUR SISTER IS. I FEEL YOU CAN HAVE WHOEVER YOU WANT. JUST BECAUSE SHE IS YOUR SISTER DOESN'T MEAN SHE BECOMES YOUR MOH AUTOMATICLY. WHERE IS THERE A LAW SAYING IF YOU HAVE A SISTER SHE HAS TO BE YOUR MOH WHEN YOU GET MARRIED! GOOD LUCK IN YOUR DECISION. I WILL KEEP YOUR MOM IN MY PRAYS

Re: BM & MOH
sorry to hear about your sister. You are making a good decision though.
A unique way to ask your friends to be in your bridal party is to maybe go out to dinner and give each one a 'will you be my bridesmaid' card to with a poem inside.
Also, ask as early as you want! Especially if they are close friends and family that you know for sure you will be close to forever.
