BM question - has anyone ever had...

...their brother's girlfriend?

Is this a bridal party no-no if they're not engaged?

That all depends on how close you are with her. I say if your pretty close with her then I would have her as a bridesmaid.

When my FH's brother got married his wife asked me to be a BM - we didn't get engaged for over a year after their wedding

Ok cool - I just get nervous that it puts this unwarranted pressure on my brother...
I talked to him about it and he told me to do what I wanted but I get nervous that since our wedding is so far away, what if something happens?!

It totally depends on the situation and how serious they are and how close you are with them. If FBIL's late girlfriend were here, she would definitely be in my wedding party. But FSIL changes boyfriends like I change my underwear so FH decided not to include her boyfriend, even though he was very close with them. And good thing he didn't because now they're broken up and don't speak.

Think it depends on the situation and your relationship with her as well as your brothers. We had and are having a similar issue because when we picked groomsmen my FSIL and her bf were in a weird limbo so FH didnt want to take the chance because if something happened he'd be in a large majority of our pictures. But now that they are headed towards engagment we are going to give him an honor during the ceremony.

I have my brothers gf included like she was in the BP but not a BM. It was nothing personal, we kept our BP strictly to family. She is being included in hair the day of and has seen many details of our wedding so far. I didn't have her come dress shopping though since she won't be in the actual BP.

I think id depends on the situation. I was going to ask my brother's gf to be a bm bc they had been together 4 years, he was looking at rings and such. I figured it would be a great way to bond together. Sadly about a 3 weeks after we got engaged she broke up with my brother out of the blue, accused him of cheating and devastated him. Then she turned around and started dating my ex-boyfriend.

My FH sister got married in Sepetember and I wasn't asked to be a bridesmaid and was kind of offended. We are pretty close, and weren't engaged yet when she asked her bridal party. FH and I were dating though for 6 years, and we knew we'd get engaged soon, but FSIL had the same thought of 'what if something happens'...I guess it depends on the situation but I know in mine it bothered me

I think it is all based on individual situations. If they have been dating awhile and the engagement is just a formality I don't see the harm in it. I made the mistake of asking my FH's brother's girlfriend to be a BM because I thought it was the 'right' thing to do. They have a weird relationship so he called me for her to say he didn't want her in the bridal party because he didn't know if they were still going to be together in November and he didn't want her in the pictures. Meanwhile they are buying a house. Luckily she didn't buy a dress so it wasn't a big deal.

I agree. Depends on the situation. When fbil (fhs brother) got engaged we had been dating the same amount of time but weren't engaged yet. They were in a rush to get married and are about 6 years older than us. Initially fsil didn't ask me to be a BM and I was gravely offended. Granted weren't engaged yet. However, she did eventually ask which I think bothered me even more because I'm sure she felt pressure out of obligation. Anyway now I have her in my bridal party out of obligation I guess. We aren't that close but again its one of those situations that isn't worth the fight. I think you need to just do what's best for you- if you guys are close that's awesome and I'm sure she will be thrilled! And like you said you already talked to your brother! :)

Hey ladies - I know this is an old post, but I'm still thinking about this one...

Do you know how you'd list her in the program? 'Friend of the Bride'?

I def don't see anything wrong with it but just be careful. My cousin and my friend did this. My friends FBIL and his gf were together for 7 yrs since they were in high school. Nobody thought they'd ever break up. She was in the wedding and out of the blue sometime afterwards they broke up. So now she's in all her wedding pictures. My cousins brothers gf was in her wedding. She thought they won't break up. Everybody loves her and this is the first girl he's really liked in so long. And they ended up breaking up.
