BOK to toss or not...other ideas...

Her's an idea I found on Martha Stewart Weddings site - for brides looking to do something other than the traditional toss...


It's a suspenseful moment when the single women gather behind the bride for the bouquet toss, to see who will be the next to get married. To get the blossoms to the wallflowers, she stands on a balcony, the top of a staircase, or a chair, her back to the crowd.

Breaking Tradition
Save your bridal bouquet and throw a special 'fortune bouquet' composed of a dozen or so small clusters of flowers bound together with a ribbon that you untie before you throw. Each mini bouquet is bundled with a different romantic fortune.

If you prefer, toss out the toss and try this custom popular in Finland instead: The bride is blindfolded, and the unmarried women form a circle around her. While music plays, the bride slowly turns in place in one direction and the women walk, arms linked, the other way. Everyone stops when the music ends, and the bride walks forward to hand off her flowers to the person directly in front of her.

You can also do an anniversary dance instead of a bouquet toss, where they call up all married couples onto the floor.

The MC then asks couples married less than a day to leave the floor, then less than a year, and so on. When there is one couple left on the dance floor, the bouquet is given to them to celebrate their years together.

This is what we ended up doing. DH's parents won the bottle of champagne w/the garter & toss BOK - they have been married for 53 years!

i want to do the boK garter toss but i know ppl dont like the idea of the second part - putting the garter on the girl.... sooooo

i think i am going to have the DJ announce that we are doing it a little different and explain that there will be no putting the garter on the girl but rather the girl who catches the boK will get the flowers plus a $25 g/c to victorias secret or something and the guy who catches the garter will get a $25 gc to best buy....

what do you think?? it might get more ppl on the dance floor for it too!

I was in a wedding a couple of years ago and was PSYCHED for the bouquet toss... until I CAUGHT it and then they announced the garter toss and I was like... OH.... NOOOOO...


So I RAN to FH (BF at the time) and PUSHED him out on the floor... the guys were nice (or repulsed by me?) and let FH catch the garter... but it made it kinda lame that way..

So I think your solution is great!

the fortune bouquet is a great idea, but I don't totally 100% understand how it works.

FH and I don't want to do the whole garter thing. But I do want to toss my bouquet. So we're going old school (think 'father of the bride' At the end of the party, as we're leaving I'm just going to throw it back. (I think).

I really don't want to do anything.. I hate group participation activities.

Since my florist is throwing in a throw away bouquet maybe I'll just toss it at the end of the night ... NO GARTER!!!

Im pretty sure we will be doing an anniversary dance. We hardly have any single friends left so there would be no one to catch anything.
