We're going to start looking at halls (soon, I hope). FMIL is saying to book the church first. I truly don't think that's the way to go as I feel the halls are much more sought after.
Did anyone book the hall first and then have a problem NOT getting their church on the date?
Are there any limitations on times at the church?
TIA!

Re: Book Church After Hall? Any problems?
I booked my church before the hall but I looked at halls first. When I found the place and the day I asked the hall to hold the day for me and gave them like $200 which was refundable if the church did not have the day available. The church also respects that more--b/c if you book the hall and give them a deposit then go to the church and find out the day is taken you might have to go find another church. My church does 2 weddings on fridays 4 & 5:30 I got the 4 o'clock time but it would have been bad if I could only get the 5:30 since the reception starts at 7! Good luck--most halls will understand.

We also booked the hall first. But don't tell the church you booked the reception first!
same here. we had no problems. our church has masses on saturdays at 1 and 5 so my 3:30 ceremony is what fit.

May i ask why church's don't like you to book halls first? I booked my hall first and told the priest I had done so, he didn't seem to mind.

My church had a problem with it also...So as far as the church is concerned keep the hall booked already on the hush
