Ok .. so we booked our church today and the date is official.. nov. 7th 2008! WOO HOO!!! I've been posting about a few RHs i'm looking into.. One of the ones i didn't mention.. but like is window's on the lake....
question 1.. anyone getting married or been there?? what did you think??
question 2? i think it it's almost exactly an hour from the church. Now i have a lot of friends and family who live here.. so i'm not worried about them.. but what about the people who live out on long island already.. is it too much of an inconvenience to expect them to come to the church in bklyn then head out to the island .. especially that far out??? i'm not sure.. so i need some feedback!! I feel like if it's the right place i should do it, but it is pretty far, especially in friday traffic!!
Also we booked the church for 3.. if we want a 7pm CH should we have given ourselves more time for pics and stuff in between ???? thanks!

Re: booked the church.. now what about RH
Hi, well you did it right according to the church, but you may not be as lucky when you try to book your hall.
The hall may not have that date available or an earlier time to start.....
You never tell the church, but usually you book your RH first.
Best of luck though, it may work out.
I think 3 pm is fine, esp. if you aren't going to have a full mass, if you are, it still leaves you 3 hours in between, so as long as your RH isn't too far away from church you'll be fine.
Good luck!

It is what it is, the people who matter will be at your church. If this is what you planned just go with it. Good luck with your RH! XOXOXO Kitty

Re: booked the church.. now what about RH
Check with the RH you want to see if the date is available. We actually did it the other way around and just didn't tell the church that RH was already booked.
A 3pm ceremony is fine. It gives everyone plenty of time in between to get to RH...especially if it's about an hour away.

Re: booked the church.. now what about RH
I booked the church first - it's a large parish and we'd have a harder time booking it than our RH. We looked at RH's first, though, and new their availability.
Give them a call to see what they have available.
I personally think that's a long drive between the church and RH, so people who already live out east may skip the ceremony. If you're okay with that, then go ahead!

Re: booked the church.. now what about RH
call the RH ASAP!
also, most people honestly won't go to the church. friday traffic can be brutal, and to ask people from LI to travel to west and then all the way out east 4 hours later is a little too much (IMHO). of course your family will be there, but if it's important to you to have almost everyone at the church (it was for me!), you may want to reconsider having a RH much closer to the church

Re: booked the church.. now what about RH
congrats on the church!
as for windows on the lake
oh my gosh i hated it
its so decieving
the ceremony takes place across the street from the reception hall.. but i guess that wouldnt be an issue for you bc youre using a church.. but for me having my guests cross a main road to get to the lake was not an option
and the inside was full of old dusty fake flowers!
but that was like 6 months ago
maybe they changed it! good luck to you though

Thanks for the heads up.. i've had mixed reviews, the place looks beautiful in pictures, just havent been able to check it out myself yet. We already called a bunch of RH locations and they do have our date, not one said no so far, which is why we booked the church ( wanted to make sure i had it since im more flexible with the hall than i am with the church)... So we are going on Monday to check out 4 places i think. Most of them about a 35-40 minute drive from the church!! Hopefully people won't mind a half hr ride as much.. i mean with traffic on a friday it'll take an hour anyway..lol. But your right, the people who really want to be there will.. it is more than a yrs notice, so they can put in for a day off if they need to, and if not they can be there to share the reception with us.

Re: booked the church.. now what about RH
i dont think the distance will be a problem. its true that the people who want to be there will be there. i know a wedding in a couple of weeks where the church is in suffolk county and the reception is in new rochelle.. people have plenty of time to prepare for it you know

Congrats on the date!!!! I think the gap between the church and RH is enough time for pics and travelling to RH

Re: booked the church.. now what about RH
thanks all! we are going to RHs this week to book something (hopefully)!! I know everyone says its my day.. do what you want.. but i needed some feedback ... i don't want the stress of a million people complaining about my RH being so far and blah blah.. cause it's stressful enough to begin with..lol!!!!
