Booking a DJ

I don't know about anyone else out there but my fiance and I think that the music is the most important thing to a wedding. We are about to start looking for a DJ or maybe a DJ Band combo. I called around and prices are all very similar so how do you choose? Does anyone have any suggestions or reccomendations?

Hi Sandra, I'm waiting for the DJ company to call me back so I can book them. There were many women on this board who recommended them. They're called Invitation to Dance. You can see their web page when you go to Patken Photography's web page. They're the house DJ. I have the Demo Tape and it's hilarious. I wasn't impressed with any other demo tape. For me it's harded, since I now live in North Carolina and seeing demo tapes is the only way for me to choose one. Any other questions let me know! There are a bunch of good DJs recommended on this board, this company is the one I liked. Good Luck!

We interviewed four DJ companies and decided on Stan Weist. We were looking for a classy DJ and not one that does the smoke machine, giveways, etc. I would definetely recommend giving them a call! Good luck...music, I think, is the most difficult decision to make for a wedding.

Actually Stan Weist has DJ's and a band. We are getting a DJ from them. I've heard that their band is fabulous, but unfortunately we did not want a band. We were able to meet with a specific DJ, even before signing a contract, which was different from other places that I've heard of. I do not know their price from the top of my head, but I can get it for you, if you want.

$1600 for one DJ 5 hours. Cocktail hour and 4 hours reception. Light show and light giveaways.

I used Mikey Mike Entertainment. Mike is the MC and owner. He was great with the crowd. He kept the party going but wasn't obnoxious or annoying. I would definitely recommend him.

My friend has been to two weddings with BodyRock. He said they were great. At one of the weddings someone actually died (horrible!) and the DJ from Bodyrock was able to get everyone back on the dancefloor. He was very impressed. For some reason he didn't use them for his wedding and he wishes he did.

Sandra, If you`re finding prices are running similar for djs you have met with and like, go with the dj that makes you feel most comfortable for what you`re asking. We met with three djs, with prices ranging from $1100-$1700. Although there is a $600 spread, we too felt the music is going to be one of the most important aspects of our reception and didn`t let the price sway us. We liked all three djs, but chose Parameters, who was the mid-price of the three, because he made us feel most comfortable when talking music. Think of this as a job interview. You want the best person suited for the job of spinning music and keeping people dancing.
