it really depends on what you are looking for? I only stayed twice in miami, in two different places. One was a crappy hotel called the san juan, but since we were in spring break, it was appropiate for us.
The second time we stayed at the riande continental, I would say that it's clean, affordable, has a pool, next to the beach, restaurant on premise, close to ocean drive and collins. not bad.
But it depends on what you are looking for. hth.

here is the link for the website of that hotel I told you about.
We stayed at the Sheraton Four Points. It was reasonably priced- I think we booked through hotels.com or one of those. We found it clean and comfortable and it's on the beach.

THE DELANO or the ritz carlton.
I second The Delano. Never actually stayed there, but it's a great place to go to for martinis and they are very reputable as far as hotels are concerned.

The Delano is way to $$$ for that time of week. Well go there for drinks though!

We stayed in the Pelican once, it was really nice.
It had one of those huge shower heads, your whole body can actually get water at the same time

I'm not sure about miami..but try hotwire. When we went to Ft. Lauderdale we stayed at the Crowne Plaza (3.5 stars) for $46 a night...rack was over $100! You can;t go wrong with a 4 star hotel. They give you the kinds of hotels you get at each star level, so for 3.5 we were told it would be crowne plaza or radisson or something else and we got a GORGEOUS crowne plaza in a GREAT location
