It's really tempting because they eat free at my hall, but I'm so skeptical. i feel like they're going to be the most expensive vendors and not necessarily the best!

Re: Booking house vendors?
This could be me being naive, but I would think that if these people are house vendors at NRC, which is a really reputable place, then they must be pretty good. As far as expense, I'm not so naive there--I had to book one of 2 house florists at my hall and both of them are really overpriced because they pretty much have a monopoly. If you aren't *required* to use NRC's house vendors though, they might be more willing to work with you on price. It's also good to book someone who is familiar with your hall and their policies, as I'm assuming the house vendors would be. Good luck

Re: Booking house vendors?
yeah i really wanted to save $$ on the florist, but only house florists can do this drapery thing on the ceiling that I really want..so i may have to go over budget on that one..

Re: Booking house vendors?
I did meet with a few of them because of the free meals. I just wasn't very impressed with the ones I met; they were a little expensive and not even close to being the best. I'll spring for the meals and use vendors I have faith in. I only went with the recommended florist.

Re: Booking house vendors?
All of the main vendors we used ended up being house vendors. We looked at it this way- we would check them out first because of the discount on the meal, but if none of them were what we were looking for, then we would look elsewhere. We also felt that our CH was putting there reputation on the line by recommending these people and that they (the recommended vendor) would know best how to work at our hall.
I would definitely meet with them and consider them, but if they're not what you're looking for or the price isn't right, then move on. If the savings is more than the price of the meal/discount, then the non-house vendor is worth it.
Good luck.

I don't think that's true cause I met with a wedding coordinator who's daughter got married there and they didn't use a house florist. Check with the NRC because I'm sure they would allow another florist to do that(I think you're talking about over the dance floor?). I've seen pics-looks great!

Re: Booking house vendors?
I booked the house DJ (Tommys Tunes) and Photographer (Dan Krieger). I met with several vendors, both house and non-house, and it just turned out that the ones I booked so far are house.

Re: Booking house vendors?
I was 'guided' by the house vendors and recommendations from others. We checked out the house vendors first, then checked some non. We actually ended up loving the house people more, AND they gave us very competitive rates. This definitely helped a LOT!

Re: Booking house vendors?
I was told the house vendors could cost me more $ because they pay a 10 -20 % in commission to the catering hall. Some non house vendors said they eat during cocktail hour not to pay for their dinner.
