Hey everyone. What was your favorite movie that came from a book (presuming you read the book). As in which one gave the bets interpretation?

Re: Books Turned to Movies
I just saw The Notebook last night. I didn't enjoy the book (Nicholas Sparks) as much as other people have but I LOVED the movie!!! The interpretation was really great and I had much more emotion watching the movie then reading the book. I'm glad I saw it (which I orginially wasn't looking forward to)

I loved the notebook (the book, I haven't caught the movie yet, but def. will be doing that this week!). My fav. book turned movie---I know this is so cheesy---but its A Walk To Remember. I think its such a cute movie and I really liked the book as well. OHHHHH and Cider House Rules.

Re: Books Turned to Movies
I liked 'Where the Heart Is.' I read the book in college and then saw the movie afterwards with Ashley Judd and Natalie Portman.
I also liked 'Message in a Bottle' by Nicholas Sparks.
Now I'm waiting for 'The Door In the Floor' to come out. Its based on 'A Widow for One Year' by John Irving (who also wrote the Cider House Rules). I didn't love the book, but I'm curious to see the movie.

Re: Books Turned to Movies
So far the only movie that I have seen that was relatively true to the book is Red Dragon the others in the Hannibal series two strayed too far.
I've seen others, but that is only notable exception. IMO.
I'd like to see any of Patricia Cornwell's Kay Scarpetta series made into movies... I have not heard anything definitive as to when, which ones.

Re: Books Turned to Movies
The first two Harry Potter movies are very faithful to the books. The third is close but glosses over and skips a lot of things.
Most of John Grisham's books held up well in the movies. I know that they changed the ending of the Firm - but I think the scene is so great that I am fine with it.
James Patterson books - Morgan Freedman is so NOT Alex Cross. He's a great actor, but completely miscast as Alex.
David Baldacci's Absolute Power - the movie is missing the main character from the book but if you didn't read it, I think you're fine.
ETA: Sleepers was pretty close to the book. The directors handled the reform school scenes as delicately as the could while still letting the audience know what was going on.
The Godfather & Good Fellas/Wiseguy was close also.

Yes I do agree the Harry Potter and John Grisham movies are similar to the books.

The Shawshank Redemption was my favorite book made into a movie...Silence of the Lambs was also good
There are so many that I liked... The World According to Garp is probably my fave. The Harry Potter's and I thought The Notebook movie was way better than the book. Some of Stephen King's stuff, mostly Carrie, Green Mile and Shawshank Redemption.

I agree. I was very disappointed. I read the book for a 2nd time right before I went to see the movie and I actually regret reading it again, because I think I would've liked it more if I hadn't.

I would have to say: It The Stand Green Mile
As you can see I am the BIGGEST Stephen King fan.
He's a great author! I loved the Green Mile, but I cried like a baby when I watched the movie.
