Bored and Venting...

This has nothing to do with wedding planning, actually it is way off topic, but I'm just frustrated! I just graduated from St. John's Univeristy on Mother's Day. I am home now in Babylon desperately applying for teaching jobs on Long Island and NYC. I'm just sooooo frustrated because it seems impossible to get an elementary teaching position. Sorry for complaint. Just had to let it all out. Thanks girls

Aww, just hang in there. Definitly keep applying in the city. A lot of LI schools are only hiring out of the city because they will only take teachers with experience. I know it s ucks but hang in there and good luck!!

I know how you feel. I graduated 5 years ago, got frustrated, and ended up with a job not in my field. Don't make the same mistake I did and settle, keep pushing and you'll find something.

it is difficult I know how you are feeling! I graduated undergrad in 02 and MS 04 and just got a job this year in NYC. Just keep at it! you will get something.

If you want look into Teaching Assistant postions for the Time being. some offer full benefits and decent salary. i worked as 1 in 2 different distrcts. FM if you want more info

If I were you I would go in person to the schools that you want positions in. It may seem pushy, but they will simply push your resume/application aside if you don't make a strong impression.

Where did you student teach?? Did you try there?

I can totally relate. FH and I are moving to Albany in July. I keep applying to schools, but I am getting nowhere

First of all congrats on graduating!!!! That in itself should feel good.

I know it is difficult to get a position on LI. I graduated in 04 with my bacholars and have been doing leave replacements andthis past year I was team teaching- You do anything you can to get them to notice you. They finally did and I landed a job- Signed contract on thursday.

Try subbing. Lots of schools pay well for subbing. Islip, east Islip all pay well.

Go to Olasjobs (Long Island)-----one resume and it is linked to about 15 school districts on LI.
My fiance just got a job in a district on Olas last week, and I got my job 2 years ago!
FYI--- ever think of starting in Catholic school---that is how we got our start!
