Boston Terrier Moms

We have been gong back and forth about getting a new puppy.
The Boston Terrier was on the list of ones we like and after seeing your pics...I think it is the one!!!!

Can you please tell me about your experiences with the dog?

Do you have to get their ears cropped? That is just something i can't go through again

PLEASE any info would help!!!

No cropping of the ears but I believe the breeders crop the tails before the puppies are sold because the tail grows like a deformed stick out of their butt (no flexibility). You never get involved in that procedure.

Bostons are amazing little dogs. They are extremely loyal, definitely affectionate (love to snuggle, play, smooch). They usually like to travel around w/you, are excellent watchdogs and incredibly entertaining. The downside is that they do shed little black hairs (but they are not as bad as other breeds, it just shows up more at my house w/the beige tile) and they are high strung and strong willed. When they get something in their head, it's going to be a test of wills who is going to win. I think overall they are good w/kids (I know mine are) and they interact well w/other pets. They can sometimes have issues w/their breathing (they can often snore or have this trachea issue where they start having a pseduo asthma attack - it's something in their larnyx that gets caught occassionally). They are also prone to hip displasia (I have two who have it, it doesn't affect them now but in later years can be an issue if arthritis sets in). But I would have a million. They are so fun, bright and energetic.

C'mon Jenn, get one!!

Re: Boston Terrier Moms

You will not at all regret making this decision. My little Mo is more of a person than some people I deal with on a regular basis...teehee. They are WONDERFUL puppies, and such smart dogs. Mo snores a little, but thats expected of short-snouted animals (and FHs).

Give this dog a patch of sunlight and a blankie and he's the happiest guy in the world. (He is my family's dog- I still live at home.) We keep a fleece blanket on both levels of the house, and he's very protective of them. My parents never let animals (my cousins included) on the couch, but Mo doesn't seem to mind. They are very easy to train (high intelligence) and even more fun to play with. If FH is looking for a dog he can play rough with and you're looking for a cuddler, this is the perfect dog for you. Mo LOVES his crate- he cries to go IN, never once cried to get out.

Funny story - my best friend has a Boston too - got one shortly after meeting mine. The first summer she had the dog, he got a bumpy red rash on his tummy and it just wouldnt go away. She took the dog to the vet, and the dog had SUNBURN! Because their underbellys are white and the coat is the thinnest there, and the fact that these dogs love to sunbathe, it is a possibility that they will get sunburn in the summer. This problem was easily solved - slapped some banana boat on that little guy, at the vet's recommendation.

GET A BOSTON! If you do, and change your mind for some reason, I'll take him- one just isn't enough!

ETA: the condo is not too small at all - especially with a puppy, its smart to have him in a little space. Easier to train/housebreak/keep track of where he is! They're the tiniest little puppies!
