bottle nipples

bottle nipples

How do you know if you need a new nipple on bottles? Will it start to malfunction? (sorry for the lame question...) Do they get worn out? I mean she doesn't use them very much.

Reason I ask, is that she had a hard time with a bottle last night - it seemed like the flow was way too fast. Could that mean that the nipple was damaged or worn? (it's a bottle she's used a million times before.)

well i would guess she is chomping on it and maybe stretched it out..but Im sure your little girl doesnt have teeth yet...

when you make the bottles and insert the nipple into the band, pull on it. If it needs to be replaced, you will find out then

what kind of nipples are you using? the latex ones say to replace them every 2-3 months, but who knows. also, if you were using any powered formula before sometimes it can clog the nipples. I would run very hot water in them to make sure they are clear.

Re: bottle nipples

Jenny, I have used Avent bottles since day one (when I stopped bfing) and I have really only changed nipples when it was time to increase the flow - and I only did that once. I am just now changing the nipples again because it has been a few months. They are still fine, but I feel better changing them...I think the silicone can last up to 6 months but it depends on usage. I have a ton of bottles that I rotate through so it has been just about 6 months and all the nipples are still in good shape, I'm just thinking of changing them now to increase the flow rate. I'm not even sure I have to do that since Ryan seems pretty comfortable. I'm going to test and see.

Now that I have rambled on...it may be defective or clogged, but unless she's using it a ton I would think you would have time before you have to change it.
