Bottle question...

Bottle question...

Last night I returned a starter set of bottles, and only got 2 different bottles. A 4 oz. and a 9 oz. They're 2 different brands also. I just thought that it would be better if I had a couple of them for him to try. What do you think? How many bottles do you think I'll need in the beginning? How long does a baby drink a 4 oz. bottle, or an 8 oz. bottle? Thanks!

Re: Bottle question...

I had Avent & Dr. Brown bottles and when Gianna was first born, the nipples on both were too big for her and she hated them, so I had to go out and buy Gerber bottles for the first 2 weeks. As she got bigger, I tried Evenflo and she hated that also, so I went back to Avent and now the gavone LOVES them and it's the only bottle she'll drink from. You can never have enough bottles if you ask me because you always need some extras for when you're sterilizing the dirty ones.

I started using the 9 oz bottles when we went up to 6 oz (I tried to squeeze as much as I could into the 4 oz bottles)!!!

I hated Avent only because Luke was colicky and I could hear the bubbles as he drank. I switched to Dr Browns and was very happy with them. The do have extra parts to clean but I put them in the dishwasher bottle basket and it's not a problem. He was fine with either as far as the nipple was concerned. The really dont stay on 4 oz bottle that long but it's worth having them IMO. You can later use them for juice. And Avent does have the interchangeable sippy cup attachments that work on the bottles as well. I think 6 bottles is an OK amount to have, it depends on how quickly you wash them.

I originally registered for the Avent bottles and hated them, she was too small for them, now I use the Avent for her water and it's just fine.

I tried the evenflo- hated it
I then tried the playtex and she loves it and it's great because I'm still BF'ing her and it's very similiar to Mom's boobs!

I use the Avent bottles. Initially I bought the 4oz and the 9oz, and quickly decided to use the disposable liner bottles, so we only used the 9oz bottles (and just put 4oz of formula in them). They are great! You never have to sterlize them (only the nipples), and you can take only a few with you when you go out and just bring a lot of bottle liners and nipples, which is much easier (and takes up less room in a diaper bag). Plus, I've heard (and I believe) that using the liner actually allows less air to go into the baby's stomach because it collapses as she drinks.

We tried Avent and Dr. Brown's, and let Nicolas choose which he liked best. It was apparent from the start that the Avent's weren't working for him, so now we use only Dr. Brown's. I have about 9 8 oz. bottles and 8 4 oz. I'll be buying more 8 oz soon because the 4 ouncers just aren't enough any more.

I use the Playtex nursers and Silicone nipples. It has worked out just fine for us. Plus, I am continuing to bf.

Re: Bottle question...

We tried the both the Playtex and Avent in the beginning, so I only have two 4 oz. Avents. Sean went up to 5+ ounces pretty quickly. I have 7 (had 8, but one disappeared ) of the 9 oz. Avent bottles. Sean eats 5x a day, so 7 bottles is plenty. He did fine w/ both the Playtex and Avent, but *I* prefer the Avent.

We're also introducing a sippy cup very soon so I'm hoping to go to 3 or 4 bottles/day.

Kathi, I have heard WONDERFUL things about the Avent sippy cups. If you like the bottles, you should give the sippy cups a try.
I'm going to try the cups (getting a little ahead of myself, aren't I?? ) even though Nicky didn't like the bottles, because of the rave reviews.

Hi JennRennee Mommy!

We have 2 Avent sippy cups waiting to be sterilized! I'm going to try the spout & handle on his bottle first b/c he loves to 'hold' his bottle (for fear that I may take it away), but it's just too heavy for him.

OMG! I'm laughing out loud!! Nicolas is only 3 weeks old, but he keeps his fat little fingers wrapped tight around his bottle or my hands... I swear it's out of fear that I'm going to take it away!!!!

I think Sean and Nicky are going to have A LOT in common!
