Bouncing a check...???

I just heard that someone I know bounced a check to their landlord (which was back in May when they moved) and now the State Troopers are looking for them. Are they going to get arrested? Do the cops just help find them so they can get the money back to the landlord or is it usually something better when the police are involved?

Thats pretty wild. Never heard of that. That person should look into the Landlord/Tenant laws for that state.

Go on freeadvice.com and ask an expert there about this.

Bouncing a check is against the law. I have done it (ummm a few times) and never been arrested. But you could be arrested for it!

I know its illegal but Ive never heard of the state troopers getting involved. Ive bounced one or 2 in my day and I just deposited more money and sent another check that I knew would clear and never had any problems. I just dont know whats going to happen since the check was sent back in May and the landlord hasnt been able to catch up with them since.

Depends on how far the person on the receiving end of the bounced check wants to take it. Normally, it can be resolved before authorities are involved. Chances are the landlord initiated the use of the police.

Also, if the check was mailed, you have mail fraud.

wow- I didn't realize how serious that could get.
I did once accidently ( poor book keeping under wedding stress) but thank God I had overdraft protetvion.

The banck just charged a $30 fee, which I thougth was a lot, but it it is better than getting the state troopers involved!

If the person never replaced the check, especially after all this time, I can see where there would be police involvement. I would imagine this would be a last resort someone is going to take to get their money.

(Obviously, I don't know if that's the case here)

just to keep u ladies updated on checks and bouncing...

check start i believe today (nov 1st) are going to clear within a day or 2 instread of 3 to 4 days...so make sure you have funds in your account
