Still trying to settle on a venue...was wondering if anyone had / attended a large wedding at Bourne (inviting 350, expecting 275-320...Bourne said they could handle the capacity by opening up side rooms). Just don't to feel stuffed...any feedback??

I have the same guest amount and we were pretty close on booking with the bourne. However, FH was not sure about the side rooms and when we saw them opened felt they would be a bit excluded. I love it though, but was def weary on the size, even in the main room. We knew we would have a band and didnt think it would cut it. Good luck!

This was pretty much our situation too - same guest amount, etc. Although I loved Bourne, I didn't really like the idea of 'excluding' people in the side rooms. It seems like even in the main room it would be really tight.

I have the same guest amount and we wanted to have our ceremony at the bourne and they wanted to put people in the 'side' room. I would have had over 100 people in the 'coat' area The real point of contention for us in not choosing the Bourne was the upkeep of the place for the $$ we would have spent....I suggest you take a walk around outside (as we did two weeks ago). The retaining wall in the back near the courtyard (where our guests would be during the cocktail hour) is roped off because it is crumbling. The ballroom looked like it needed painting. The bench outside of the entrance was about to collapse and leaning to one side (similar to the leaning tower of Pisa) and the ladies bathrooms had a sign on the door 'out of order'. Later I found out that the pipes 'weren't working' so my mother and I had to use the the men's facility. I don't know what the Bourne was going to do since there was going to be a wedding there the next day. I hope those pipes were fixed by that time. Oh...and try imagining the ballroom with the amount of guests plus a stage for a band. I was reminded of that by my mom, who was quick to point out that the 300 people we will have might not fit given the size of the dance floor in the ballroom. It seems big when looking at it unoccupied-but then I counted the number of tables in the ballroom and there were only ~18-19 tables set up...I will have 30 tables. It would be really really tight. My fiancee and I talked about it, and even though it seemed like a really nice place at first, when we went back thinking we would secure a date, we noticed all of those flaws. For the amount of money we would be paying ( the $4,000 site fee on top of the price p/p) the place should have been in better condition. Be aware of the condition and the occupancy limit of this place! We decided on the VYC which is a much larger space... we are renting the entire facility and have access to both upstairs and downstairs during our event. It works for the numbers we are guaranteeing. I wish you the best of luck picking a location.

Just an FYI - we looked at the Bourne today - and they were painting the main ballroom - and doing some other renovations. I think that they do a lot to keep up the mansion, and all the bathrooms were in working order.
