BOURNE MANSION BRIDES THREAD!

Hello,

I was thinking that maybe we could start a thread of all of us Bourne Mansion brides, so we can discuss some ideas and such. Also, hopefully, as people have their weddings over the summer, they'll share their experiences with the rest of us Bourne Mansion Brides!!

I hope there are some takers on this thread! I think the first person that is getting married at the Bourne who is on LiWeddings is getting married on 5/31. My date is Sunday 9/21/03.

I have so many ideas of things I want to do and I'm wondering what others are doing. But I have so many questions, such as, where will the bars be located, where will the cocktail hour food be set up, where will the cake table be...yadda yadda, my list of questions goes on.

Also, has anyone requested direction cards from lessings to put in your invites? What are they like, did you use them or are you making your own?

I think there's only 3 Bourne Brides on the boards. I only know of you and one other. (There may be more, but they don't post.) I'm there the day before you.

I need to contact Ben big time! Like you, I have lots of questions and things to confirm. I guess I should ask about the direction cards too!!

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm the NEXT Bourne Mansion bride.....

We did get invites from Lessings, but ended up typing our own, b/c we didnt' want 3 direction cards in our invites (chruch, Bourne and hotel). Plus we're anal (ok, fine...I'M anal) and wanted to add in a few more details (like 'enter through Gate 2 onto campus', since that's the nicer entrance.)

We're going to Bourne this weekend so all other plans will be finalized then. We're adding lots of personal touches, but FM after my wedding, b/c I'm trying to keep them a surprise.

I am so excited about this thread. I, like the rest of you, would love to see pics and see how everything turned out. I think its the absolute perfect place for a wedding. The site fee hurts, but I am over it.

My wedding is not until April 2004.

YAY! I am getting married at the Bourne as well, and I was so excited to see this thread. I am the furthest in time away, not until July 3 or 2005, and I am trying to book vendors now to keep costs low. We booked back in January and were able to squeak in with the old site fee and 2004 prices. So excited! Can those of you getting married this year tell me who your vendors are? We are feeling clueless! Thanks and I hope to keep this thread up!

I can't believe there are not more Bourne Mansion Brides? I guess they are not on these chat sites, thats all. My fiance and I couldn't be happier with the location, we always dreamed big, like having the wedding in one of those mansions in Newport, RI, now we feel like we are doing it, and the price is so comparable to so many other of the cookie-cutter LI wedding places!

anyway, Jenny to answer your question about the invitations, my aunt is actually designing them and having them printed, she does that for her profession, but we are spending a whole day with 5 people assembling all 225 of them! it'll be fun!

Regarding vendors, Florists: Flowers by Burton, they are much cheaper than anywhere else and they don't advertise, except by word of mouth.
Photographer: Photography by Verdi is who we are using, but I have to say there are a lot of quality photographers on LI, i've seen from other brides. Video: Wild Rose Video, really professional/unobtrusive, class act.
DJ: Music by Michael, just what I wanted someone who will play what we want and who is not your 'typical LI DJ'. very classy
Limo: Dynasty,,we'll see how they do.

Regarding details of the bourne, there are so many things I'm debating, guest book, not sure if I'm going to do the polaroid thing or what? my concern is that everyone will get backed up in the main entrance. Also, There are 3 fireplaces with mantals, on the one in the main entrance room we'd like to put flowers, but also maybe photos there and then familiy photos on the other two fireplaces also. for our centerpieces we are renting 3 foot high silver candelabras from Burtons, they are beutiful. I just need to decide what color candles we'll want to put in them.

ok, i have to get back to work, but any questions anyone has or any advice, would be great!

thanks buttons, we're thinking of using candelabras on the table instead of floral centerpieces. I just think it captures the grandiose feel of the mansion. we're also planning on putting candles IN the fireplaces and on the mantles.
Is anyone else concerned about the bathrooms? I just wish there were more for the guests.

CONGRATS AND GOOD LUCK TO YOU. WE LOVED that place but it was out of our price range.

St. John's wouldn't allow ceremonies when we booked it. (Not that I mind having it at our church.)

As for my vendors:
Florist: Flower Michele
I need to meet with him soon to go over some things. I didn't realize how many cocktail tables there would be, so I need to increase the number of those centerpieces. Right now I only have him decorating 2 mantles, so I need to add a 3rd. We'll be using B&W photos in decorative frames through out the mansion. I've been stocking up! )

DJ: Parties Alive
My sister and I met with the owner/mc and got along really well with him. I told him to keep it low-key...no handouts, etc. but I'm re-thinking that. I love my glowsticks! )

Photography: Christine Austin Photography, NYC
She responded to my online request at Respond.com. I had met with a few photographers already and either they weren't negotiable with their packages or their personalities s*cked. My FH and I really liked Christine and her work...and she was negotiable in all areas.

Limos: US Limos
My FH has been using them for several years. We've never had any problems. Always excellent service. Kind of foolish to go looking around when we already have an ongoing account with them.

Invitations: Lion In The Sun
We'll be ordering our invites this Saturday. We stopped in to see if they carried the William Arthur invite that we wanted. They do carry his designs/collection and I found their service to be very attentive.

What other vendors am I missing?
