Brazilian is less destructive to your hair and wears off naturally. I know people who have had Japanese done and it stayed pin straight as their roots grew in curly... it was a lot of upkeep.

Re: Brazilian versus Japanese?
i had the keratin treatment, which i think is also the brazilian. i loved it! it's not cheap, but cheaper than japanese. it takes me 5-10 minutes to blow dry my hair and its never frizzy!! but i was also able to curl my hair if i still wanted to. they curls weren't as tight as they normally would be, so it was more like a tighter wave, but i could still do either hair style. i got mine done last september and i've been using the special shampoo and conditioner since then and i'm just starting to notice it coming out. so it's lasted almsot 8 months on 1 treatment.

Re: Brazilian versus Japanese?
I've been doing Liscio Japanese Straightening for 4 years and love it... my hair is much healthier. It depends what type of hair you have and what you want from it.. my hair was curly and frizzy and I wanted straight hair.. no desire to wear it curly or wavy. It is hard to curl your hair afterwards, so if you still want curly hair but just not the frizz it's not for you.
I go to Hayato in Manhattan. They are all from Japan and specialize in Liscio straightening.. didn't just learn the process to keep up with competition. I pay $265 and that includes a haircut too. FM me if you want before & after pics.
Liscio Japanese Hair Straightening is an innovative new technique from Japan to make frizzy, curly or wavy hair completely straight while preserving the hair's health. In the past, people were concerned that if they straightened their hair, they would damage it significantly, and this was true. It is not true any more. Hair can be straightened much more effectively with the Japanese Liscio techniques with much less damage to the hair.
Japanese Hair Straightening typically will improve the hair's feel, softness and shine while making it more manageable!

The Brazilian is not a straightener. I have done both and prefer the Brazilian because Japanese left my hair pin straight and lifeless. No body at all.
The Brazilian just takes away the frizz so you can wear your hair curly or straight (but you will still have to blowdry for straight hair - it takes much less time)

I go to Hayato on 23rd street in Manhattan. They are pretty good there and relatively inexpensive compared to other salons.

I've used a few. I used to use the associate Ryoko, but she went to the London Salon last year. Then I used the Art Director, Tatsuya, but he's more expensive. I am going next week and using an associate named Yuko, never used him/her before, so I am not sure how they are. What about you?

Had Toshi first 2 years (he went back to Japan to open his own salon), then I had May for the last 2 years (and she had to go back too).. So in July I'm going to Yuichi for the first time... they are all good though

Re: Brazilian versus Japanese?
I've done both. The Keratin coats and seals your hair strands, while the Japanese changes the chemistry of the hair from the inside out.
I liked the Japanese 1000x's better than the Keratin. But you have to remember, too, that it aaaalll depends on your hair type. I have course, wirey, Irish curly hair. I did have a few minor breakage issues, but it was well worth it.
The Keratin made my hair feel dull and lifeless...almost like it was constantly oily. It did eventually wash out, but it was a pain to go through.
I have been growing the Japanese out for almost 2 years...and I am MISERABLE!!!!!!!! My hair stylist wanted me to grow it out so she had some leeway in a 'do' for the wedding...with the humidity of the past few days, I made an appointment and am getting Japanesed!!!!!!
It's a lifesaver for frizzy/curly/unmanagable/thick hair...anything else is a gamble I think.

i've done both and prefer the keratin. i felt like the japanese made my hair extra flat while the brazilian felt and looked a bit more natural.

Re: Brazilian versus Japanese?
In terms of getting it before your wedding...a big FYI is that if you get the Japanse, your hair will be pin straight and will not a hold a curl so if you are thinking about doing any sort of curls on your wedding day, that will not happen if you get the Japanese. On the other kand, brazilian is extremely expensive and only lasts about 6 weeks but curls will stay in.

Re: Brazilian versus Japanese?
if you take care of it the way you should, the brazilian will last several months. i use the special shampoo and conditioner and only wash my hair every 2-3 days and it will hold the keratin much longer. washing it everyday isn't good for your hair anyway, but it washes the treatment out much quicker. and yes it is a coating and not a chemical, therefore it is easier on your hair then japanese.

Re: Brazilian versus Japanese?
Yes Brazilian wears evenly and your hair goes back to normal, Japanese leaves it pin straight with no volume which may be desirable until your own hair starts growing in and then it looks really funky and not in a good way and retouching gets expensive and very damaging!
