Breaking a Contract

Breaking a Contract

Has anyone broken a contract with a RH less than a year before the wedding? Did you have to pay anything extra besides what was already paid?

Where is the Hall....Nassau or Suffolk County

You can get your money back I believe 6 months b4 the event.

mine told me that if i need to break the contract, there's no additional fees ... plus, if you book with them for a later date, or if you find someone else to book your original day, they might return some (or all) of your money.

i did. if your rh is in suffolk and its more than 6 months before your date you can get your entire deposit back.

In Suffolk if it's moe than 6 months I bleive you ge most of it back minus a small fee.

In Nassau it's more pro-business. Unfortunately I have been down this road.

It depends on your contract. For example, my contract stated that if I cancelled I would be responsible for the difference between the cost of the affair they booked that day and my affair if it was less. So let's say I paid a $5000 deposit, but my wedding was going to be $30K and the other wedding was going to be $22K I could still be on the hook for $3K.

Fortunately, I think most halls do not hol you to this. I had to fight my hall tooth and nail, but they gave me back 2/3 of my deposit and held the last 1/3 for a future affair.

The nightmare I am having right now is that I went to reschedule and called them told them the date I wanted, was assured by several people the date was mine (which is should ahve been based on the fact that they had my money) and I found out they sold the date the day before my appointment to sign the contract. Now I'm fighting to get the money back.

IGH

From my experience, get as much as you can back NOW (I had to fight a lot to get what i did), and check in on them to see if they've sold your date.

Speak to the hall, maybe you can sell your deposit. So if you have $5K down maybe you can sell it to another bride for $4K and still recover most of your money.

Best of luck and get EVERYTHING in writing.
