Breast infection - Help!

Breast infection - Help!

Early Sat. morning I woke up with a 102 fever and realized that I had a breast infection - I went to the Dr. Saturday morning and she put me on antibiotics. I've been nursing still and taking the meds and applying warm compresses, still my breast is red, swollen and painful, the fever has gone away. Anyone have any other suggestions, this is sooo painful. I thought the swelling should have gone away by now...

Make sure it's not yeast, that can be a nasty cycle and hard to get rid of. I'd say f you don't feel better by day 5 on antibiotics, call the doc, maybe you need to be looked at again

Oh man, I feel for you! I've lost count of the number of times I've had mastitis...I think at least six occurences in a year.
With me, I'd start feeling better after the first couple doses of antibiotics. What kind did your doctor put you on?
Hot showers relieved some pain as well as nursing from the affected breast.

Not fun....take care!!!

Its probably masitis. I had it MANY times with my son and the meds do work eventually! I know it hurts to nurse and pump but do it.. I also had to self express with my hand (didnt hurt as much as pump)

I have to say the best thing I did (which usually worked) was...
Fold up a towel and put it under your breast and as much as it hurts.. lay on your stomache and try to fall asleep... The constant pressure must have helped because every time I woke up sleeping in a gallon of milk!! Ewwww LOL But hey it worked and I felt immediately better!!! Give it a shot.. Once you fall asleep you wont feel the pain as much.

I got it twice, basically right after each other, even with the antibiotics. I feel for you because I know how much it hurts. I found that wearing a bra without the underwire helped and nursing in bed helped as well. I basically stayed in bed for 2 days. As painful as it is to nurse and pump just keep doing it because that's the best way to get it out of your system.

I am so sorry you have this. I luckily never did but I know it must hurt like crazy. Nursing is the best thing for it, even though it hurts like heck. Keep us up to date.

ugh
I feel your pain, I had this two or three times and was miserable, the antiobiotics help

the last time I got it I stopped nursing and the dr. told me to take 2-3 advils every few hrs, that did help the pain but if your going to continue you cant take advil, check with your dr. if there is a safe anti inflammatory you can take while nursing

I'm feeling better - thank goodness - thank you ladies!
It took until pretty much last night for the swelling to go down, I was just concerned because when I had the same thing with Jordan, the swelling went down a lot faster. I pumped and held Mallory differently, they say to put the babys chin in the direction of the clogged duct - seemed to have worked.
