Re: breastfeeding pumps

I use the medela pump in style and love it, although I really don't need such an expensive pump because I'm not working and am supplementing with formula. I would def recommend this pump for a working mom. I can pump 4-5oz in 20-25 min

For a working mom you need a Medela Pump In Style or PIS Advanced. Medela makes a few pumps so make sure you get the PIS, NOT the less expensive pumps.
Also, if you go on eBay and go to The Leche Connection you can get the pump NEW, IN A SEALED BOX WITH WARRENTY INTAKE for $100 less than BRU/BBB. Just send Linda (the owner of the ebay store a message thru the ebay system since Medela is now preventing their small dealers from using ebay )...You will also want a hands free bra...which is not really a bra but rather a band that goes around your breast area and it holds the 'horns' in place while you pump. That way you can read, use the computer, do work etc...while pumping. It was a LIFE SAVER for me. It is about $30 on her site.

I also rec'd that you have the name of a professional local lacation consultant with you at the hospital and on your frig at home. I will forever regret not having that information when I had trouble bfing in the hospital. I had Molly on a holiday weekend and there were no LCs to help me and the nurses were awful and well...it was a downhill spiral. I ended up finally getting to an LC in Babylon, Dawn Frank/South Shore Lacation Consulting...she was so wonderful. I pumped full-time for 1 year. I could never get Molly to latch once she liked the bottle. If Dawn had helped me in the hospital she would have continued to bf

If you have ANY questions about pumping please let me know. I did it, while working, without any supplements after she was 1 month old for 1 year so I am a pretty good pumper.

Re: breastfeeding pumps

FOR 1X A DAY I used the Avent ISIS which worked great. But for more than 1x a day - I lost my supply using it. I now have a Medela Pump In Style Advanced and it works GREAT. I double pump for only 10 minutes and can get as much as 12 oz! This pump worked GREAT in getting my supply back. I also bought the car adapter so that when I go back to work I can pump 3x a day.

Also, I would NOT RECOMMEND babyage.com. Although they have great prices comparable to eBay, it took them a MONTH to ship the product to me. I am still waiting for my credit back on my credit card because I refused it since it took so long.

I would also recommend getting one off of eBay as they are new in the box.

Good Luck!

ETA: someone on here, I think it was actually Michele31 that recommended Gerber freezer bags for freezing your milk - they are the BEST! Ive tried other ones when I ran out and couldn't find the Gerbers and they stunk!

Re: breastfeeding pumps

just FYI - my lactation consultant said there is no real reason to get the PIS advanced over the regular PIS - she said it is not worth the extra money. I had an advanced and then bought a regular PIS for work ( used, horror of all horrors :) ) and it worked just as well. Also, I used regular ziplock bags for storage....good luck!
