Bridal gown dress sizes

Why is it that if your a size 6 in normal clothes you fit into a size 10 wedding dress?? i don't understand this logic!!!!. Why do the makers make the dress so small?

I had the reverse happen to me. I know I am not a 4 but a 10 and my dress is a size 4. this will be the only time I can say I am a 4.
