ok i am getting a little a little worried since it seems like most 08 brides have ordered their gowns already. I am getting married 4-26-08 & haven't even started looking yet., but plan to within the next few weeks. How long does it take? also, what is average cost ? not looking for anything too fancy. something simple with no train. looking for a long straight dress with some work on it. Any suggestions on where & how to start shopping.. sorry i am bit clueless, but i had some personal family issues to deal with it.
thanks !

Re: Bridal Gowns - Freaking out a little
Relax, you have plenty of time. I ordered my dress February 1 and it came in last week. As far as cost, it depends what you like, and the designer. My dress is elegant but not alot going on and it was still over $1000. But I've seen plenty of beautiful gowns that were not expensive. Start looking online for some samples of dresses you like. The bridal shops love when you come in w/ pics b/c it gives them an ides of what you like and what your looking for.
Good Luck!!

Re: Bridal Gowns - Freaking out a little
No need to freak out. I am getting married in April 2008 too and I haven't found a dress either. I started looking a few weeks ago and the only reason I started so early is because I am REALLY indecisive so I knew it would be a long process. The best thing is to bring pictures of dresses that you like. Also recommend going to at least one place all alone. I was nervous about doing that but the ladies here said it was no bigge and I did it. It was great! I think it's nice to get a feel for what you like without anyone's opinion but your own and the person asissting in the boutique. I'll go back with my mom once I have narrowed it down. I don't know much about this stuff but I do like simple dresses and this week I discovered a designer I really like. Check out www.mikaellabridal.com. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions. Good luck!

You should be fine. My friend just ordered her dress and she is getting married in September. As long as you start looking and narrow it down soon you will be fine. I ordered mine 11 months before the weddings and it came in in April.

You will be fine. I have seen soooo many gowns taht are way under 1,000 bucks and are beautiful. As someone else said, depends on the designer and also the bridal place. The place we ordered my mom's dress from is this tiny bridal shop and their prices were really good. This beaded cortched looking dress (AMAZING) was only 600 AND they don't charge for alterations. Only issue is it is in Mount Vernon in NY. But look around. You will find it. There are also reputable places online where you can order your dream designer gown for less like Valcollections2.com.

Try searching thebridalworld.com They are a store in Baldwin. They have very simple gowns and the prices are great. Good Luck.

Dresses can take anywhere from 4-9 months to come in so you still have time to shop. They can even do a rush order for you if you needed to. Don't worry.
I began searching online for wedding gowns. When you get to the designer's site, they will have link to search for locations in your area that carry their dresses. Then just pick up the phone and your on your way.
Good Luck!

you have pleanty of time! I am getting my gown made, and i am only going for my second fitting next week- and i'm getting married this year! my dress is costing me about 1000$
you want to give yourself at least 6 months to order it- sometimes dresses can take a little longer to come in- it depends on who makes it....if you're not ready to shop yet, and when you are you become worried it may not come in on time, you can always 'rush' order it.

you should be fine. the longest dresses usually take to come in is 6 months - so even if you didn't order your gown till july, it should still be in by january! just make sure you check with the bridal salon that they order it right away, and not according to your wedding date, just in case.

you should start looking. it depends what kind of dress you want. mine is going to take almost 8 months hopefully less to make. price also depends. most dresses start at least $1000. at least the places I looked. you should check out priscilla of boston, melissa sweet has some nice long straight dresses there.

You have PLENTY of time. I didn't start shopping for gowns until the end of December, bought it early January, and I'm getting married Sunday. Came in a little later than they said, but it's all worked out OK.
From what I understand, as long as you allow them about four months, most gown makers schedule your gown by wedding date, not order date. If you order it now, unless they don't have a lot of orders right now and get on the gown immediately, they'll put it off for months. You don't want your gown to come in really early anyway, because then you have to store it.
