bridal magazines suck

c'mon...really? do they ever print anything useful in them?

i have each edition and all i see are ads for dresses and diamonds, and china that i cant afford or dont want.


Yet I still buy them thinking that each time there will be something valuable for me in them

ok maybe 5% of it has good tips but otherwise i just get frustrated. Thank Gawd for LIW and all the tips that we share here ...otherwise id be nowhere in my wedding planning

You are just so right!! Dresses, dresses and more dresses (and expensive china) are all that's in those mags. The only thing they ever did for me in the begnning was psychologically enhance my fantasies about my wedding. But once I started to need REAL and USEFUL information, I found they just weren't a good source. LIW has been much MUCH more helpful.

I usually just page through them and look at the pictures. I don't ACTUALLY read the, so I'm not sure if they are helpful or not.

I find them useful to get ideas -- but mostly end to like the stories of real weddings; so The Knot, Martha Stewart, and T+C top my list.

I agree to an extent.. At this point in my planning- they do not really give me any ideas.. Although I do have to say that Martha Stewart is great-- there are always interesting things in there. The rest of them pretty much suck..

They are great for brides when they first get engaged- which is why I always gets my newly engaged friends a couple of magazines to start them off.

I don't necessarily agree! I am so addicted to Martha Stewart Weddings! I think it is SOOOOOOOO helpful! It gives great ideas if you are trying to incorporate a certain feel or theme into your wedding (fall, nautical, etc). It also will give you recipes to make things such as the wedding cakes they show in the magazine.

I don't really like the ones that are all pictures. I prefer articles, definitely. I've found some (but they are definitely few and far between) that have fantastic ideas and suggestions. Of course, these ideas are generally not for anyone even remotely budget conscious. 'Why yes, I would love to have my invitations engraved and sent in a box instead of an envelop! Only $20 each! What a steal! Lucky that I only have 500 guests!'

See, I actually find that there are ideas and things I get but they are very specifically from real life wedding stories. Usually they show pics of a couple and lots of details. From those I have gotten so many ideas...mainly I see those in The Knot, MSW, and T+C

i like some, like martha's, that have good DIY ideas. and some of the local ones seem to give a few vendor ideas...otherwise all i really use them for are pictures to model things after like the flowers, cake and centerpeices, etc.

Other than Martha Stewart's which I love, the others all start to look the same after you have seen a few.

My biggest pet peave are all the ads for engagement rings ... Dress, china - I understand. But, don't the vast majority of people buying these magazines already have an engagement ring?

I love MSW and Modern Bride. Although MB is not very useful to me anymore since everything is mostly planned. I did get a lot of good ideas from both at the beginning stage. I think they are useful resource.

I really like Elegant Bride - it's new this year and has been incredibly helpful and inspiring. Same for Martha. Maybe you are just buying the crappy ones ('Brides' is bad - 500 pages of crap. Town and Country Weddings - 6 bucks and like 25 pages of 30,000 wedding dresses.)

I understand the feeling. Six bucks and half an hour later you feel ripped off and violated. The prices are so inflated for anything to do with weddings....
