bridal party

i was just in a wedding in july & i gave less then i normally would have given as a wedding gift. from engagement party to wedding & everything in between it cost me over $1,500.00 to be in the bridal party. i know thats less then other people spend but i am a full time student & only work part time. i will be telling the bridal party that we will not be expecting any monetary wedding gifts from them.

what about you?? do you give more when you r in a bridal party?? will you be expecting a greater monetary gift from people in your bridal party???

it depends if you are a family memebr or not...Being in a BP costs alot of money as it is and the bride cant expect a large gift or a gift at all.
For FH cousins wedding, he was in the BP...We did give a very expensive gift (a home audio system, the two speakers alone were $500!! then with everything else, this system had to come out to about $800 bucks!!) but that was only bc it was FH's cousin... If it was a friend I would have probably given a $200-$250 check (call me cheap i dont care!!) bc it is all I could really afford after all the bridal party costs are added up!!

Re: bridal party

the only bridal party i was ever in was my sisters last november. we gave them a gift, definitely more than we would give anyone else but the fact that i was in the bridal party didnt even factor in. if we could afford to give them more we would have

being in a BP is expensive... i cant even tell you how much money i spent but i saw it as this is my ONLY sister and the ONLY time she will be getting married i will do anything and everything to make is super special for her...

my BP just consists of my sis, all my girl cousins, FHs cousin and one friend.. they wouldnt give us separate gifts anyway.. they would just be on the same card as their families.

i do see where you are coming from with expenses. if you have a lot of friends in your BP who are in school, working part time etc. i would tell them to not give us monetary gifts as well. you dont want people in your BP to be stressing about money.. IMHO having them there is better than any gift they could give.

thats is how i feel. my bridesmaids will be my cousins. they are all on their own from their parents so they will be paying for everything themselves.

I don't expect the BP to go into debt for my wedding. The only BP's that i was a part of were when i was a kid-so i didn't provide the gifts for those. All of our BP is family and for FH's side i know that he provided very generous gifts to them ( he bought his sister a 46 inch flat screen tv), but i don't really expect them to give us the same value gifts.

Re: bridal party

I usually give more when I am in the BP...because it means I am closer to them. I havent paid any crazy amounts of money for bridal showers...so I figure whatever I spend on a dress is probably equivolent to what I would have spent even if I wasnt in the wedding.

i haven't given any more $ to people if i was in their wedding....the only 2 weddings i was in was my brothers and my friend from college. for my friend from college, i gave her what i thought was a nice gift.....her wedding was in PA and it was right after we graduated. my brother i didn't give him a monetary gift, my 2 stepbrothers, my cousin and my brother's best friend all chipped in to get him some huge flat screen tv. if i could have, i would have given him more $.

i wouldn't be angry if a bridal party member gave me a little less, because i know that they will be shelling out a lot of money for their dress, hair, etc.

The people I've chosen to be in my bridal party are going to be in my bridal party because I trust them to stand up for FH and I and be helpful. I'm going to do what I can do make costs low... I'd rather spend more money so they can spend less...

I was in my best friends wedding in 2007, and it really wasn't a lot of money, she did a good job of keeping us involved without making us broke... that's what I want to do.
