Bridal Party

How are you dealing with out of town bridal parties? Are you having your girls/guys try on and get measured elsewhere and sending measurements into the same shop, or is everyone ordering on their own? I have heard that dresses can be slightly off between different lots so it is important to order all BM dresses together. Do you really think it makes that much of a difference? Three of my BMs are on LI, and the other three are in Binghamton, Syracuse (may be moving to Illinois!), and Buffalo...so I was just going to have everyone order separately. That makes the most sense for alterations. Groomsmen are all over the place (TX, VA, NY), we will probably have them send measurements in since they'll just be renting. To add to this, FH and I will probably (hopefully) be moving to DC sometime before the wedding so that adds another layer of difficulty in coordinating everything.

How far in advance should we order the BM dresses? Like 6 months prior? I think we are going to do Allure Chiffon in Platinum, any style they want, but I want to see them in person first!

I have BMs and gms all over the place too.. I think for the girls I will ask the out of town girls to get measured and the give their measurements to me or the dress place so they are all ordered together. The guys I think will get measured and then pick them up here since they are renting

With you girls, I'd say have them give measurements and all order from the same place. Unless you're going to a David's Bridal where there's a bunch of locations. For the guys, I'd suggest men's wearhouse because they also have locations all over the US.

For the GM, my FH had them go to their local men's warehouse. Just register their names to the bridal party list when your FH goes in for his measurements, and it doesn't matter where they are, since their local store will take care of them. Its very easy and two of his GM one from ATL, and the other in FL had already went in and ordered them.

The girls that do not live near by will get measured and send their measurements to the same shop... We want all the dresses ordered from the same lot of fabric.

Most of my BM's are from LI except one who now lives in CT but used to live on LI. I will probably try to go shopping with all of them since the one in CT travels home to visit family. I know a lot of people just get measured and send measurements in though.

I'm doing the David's Bridal thing since my girls are in 3 different states.

I'm not worried about the girls finding the dresses, it won't be hard to find a salon that carries the line. I guess I'm asking how big of a deal different lots can be? I think it would be ridiculous to order all of the dresses from one shop and then what...ship them out to everyone??

That's typically what they end up doing. They did that for another wedding I was in. Also, we went bridemaid dress shopping this past weekend. We saw dresses all in the same color but they looked different. They said it was because they were from different lots of fabric.

Hmm...Interesting. I guess we may have to go that route then. Can't believe they were noticeably different although they're the same color. That makes no sense to me?! LOL Thanks!

I don't have personal experience with same fabric and same color but ordered from different lots therefore the color shows as different BUT every single bridal shop I've ever been to through the course of my being in weddings and planning my wedding stress that no designer will guarantee that the color will be exactaly identical UNLESS it is ordered from the same dye lot. I think the only time you can get away with ordering at different stores would be like someone said to possibly use davids bridal or if you have black but even then I've heard it can be different variations...

My bridesmaids as well as myself are all spread out so after trying to organize shopping all together and failing at that, I had the girls go to shops local to them, try on the dresses of the designer I was wanting to use, get measured and then I ordered all of them from where I got my dress Village Bridal.

Hope this helps and good luck :)

Yeah, this is what I think we are going to do. I just feel bad having them try on elsewhere knowing that they won't be ordering through them :(

I have an extremely small bridal party: a matron of honor and maid of honor and FH has 2 best men. We only have one person (1 groomsmen) who is out of town who lives in Florida and I'm sure there is a Men's warehouse where he can get fitted. My girls already have their dresses and will be going with FH hopefully this weekend just to see what all the guys will be wearing (father's as well as ring bearer) My concern is I never met the out of town groomsmen and don't know how reliable he is. That's the part that bothers me and that might be the only time I may be a bridezilla if he shouldn't be. I asked FH to contact him and see when the next time he will be in town to visit. Not only for us to meet but to let him know what he will be wearing. I was very fortunate to see my bridesmaid in their dresses and they looked amazing. I most importantly wanted to make sure they felt comfortable in what they were wearing. Bridesmaid dresses come in more quickly then the wedding dresses so I would allow at least 3 months - 4 months. At least that was in my case for my girls and they got their dresses in less than 2 months. I would think it depends on where you are getting your dresses from so it may vary from store to store. Good luck and keep us posted :)
