bridal party and pregnant

bridal party and pregnant

Hi Ladies, I usually do not post (just read the boards) but I have a dilemma and needed some opinions. One of my best freinds are getting married and I am supposed to be n her bridal party. The thing is I am pregnant (my husband and I have not told anyone yet as I am in my first trimester) and due about a week and a half after her wedding. She called me this morning to tell me the dresses HAVE to be ordered next week. I am unsure what to do about being in her bridal party. I love her to death but have heard the last month of pregnancy can be very tiring and what if I go early or something. Not to mention the dress she picked out is gorgeous but extremely lowcut and I already have a large chest. I imagine I will be huge by then and I have no idea what size I would even need to order. I know if I tell her I am pregnant she will not tell anyone and be very happy for us but I still feel bad not being part of the wedding even though I am ecstatic about this pregnancy. Any opinions? Thanks ladies.

Re: bridal party and pregnant

1st off congrats on your pregnancy...

Let your friend know that you are pregnant but you want to keep it quiet until the 2nd tri if that is your wish BUT let her know when you are due and explain it all to her. If you do decide to be in the BP then they can order additional fabric for you to make the dress fit a pregnant person. Yes, its more money but if you want to be in her wedding its an option. Also yes, you will be a bit more tired when are you close to your EDD but as long as you arent running around like a mad woman and you can sit down you should be fine! Good luck!

I would definitely tell your friend your situation. Perhaps you both can come up w/ a solution that makes you both happy?

Felicia on here just had her baby 3 weeks early... you never know.

Maybe you don't have to be an 'official' bridesmaid w/ the same dress etc... but have the same duties and meaning?

Congratulations on your pregnancy!!!

I would tell your friend that you are preggo and let her know you aren't telling anyone until after your 1st trimester is over... If I were in this situation, I would probably lean toward not being a bridesmaid - a week after the wedding is pretty close! I would discuss with your friend and see how she feels about it. I'm sure that it will NOT be a problem!

Good luck! Congrats again!!

Re: bridal party and pregnant

Hi. Congratulations.
If you are close to this friend (which it sounds like you are because you are in the wedding party and really want to be) then it is probably safe to tell her your pregnant. Let her know you feel comfortable sharing the news with her even though you're waiting until the second trimester to officaly tell close friends.
I am due in 16 days and I can not imagine being in a wedding party right now- and I feel relatively good. Standing around for pictures would be uncomfortable (you'd probably wear flats but even still my legs and hips hurt if I stand too long in the same position and it's not a good idea to stand for long periods of time if you're prone to vericose veins) , the frequent bathroom trips and the long day. Worrying that my water might break would also be on my mind. The dress would have to be fitted only a few days before b/c everybodies body is different. Some people's stomachs get bigger at a steady rate and others pop big time the last few weeks so that even maternity cloths have difficuluty fitting. Or your stomach can drop and the dress would fit differently. And there will be a lot to do with the wedding- getting shoes dyed, dress fittings etc. and at the same time you'll have weekly doctor appintments, tons of baby gifts to put away:), a car seat to install, hospital/labor bag to pack. It's just a lot. I don't mean to be pessimistic though. I'm sorry if I'm coming across that way. I'm sure it can be done. I'm just writing how I would feel being in a wedding party so close to my due date.
My husband is in a wedding party this weekend and even that makes us nervous b/c if I have my baby that day or the day before, he'll want to be in the hospital with me, but feels bad backing out at the last minute. Hopefully that won't happen and the bride/groom completely understand but the attention should be on them that weekend, not us having our baby. And I feel bad that weddings are so expensive and if I can't go that day, they will most likely be out the money since most places need a headcount ahead of time and hold you to that number.
If you're not in the wedding party you can go to the service and most of the wedding depending on how you're feeling that day. And you wont know until that day. You may have your baby early, you may be dilated, you may have the lightning feeling that your baby is going to drop out or you may have a surge of energy. It's hard to say. I would play an active role in planning the shower if I were you and plan on going to the service as a guest, take lots of pictures and get them developed in an hour, Then put them into a photoalbum so that night the bride/grrom and family can have fun seeing how everything looked.
Sorry this is so long.

Re: bridal party and pregnant

Definately tell her! Figure out something that makes both of you happy!
As far as being tired, everyone's pregnancy is different. Its hard to say. Even if you ARE in BP, Im sure you will be able to take it easy in between photos, etc. Judging from my past 2 pregnancies (knock on wood, which were GREAT) I would definately be in a close friends bridal party. Although towards the end, you WILL be taking it VERY easy and get tired fast, it doesnt mean you cant be in her bridal party. Just find the nearest comfy couch and glass of water wherever you are!
Its really a tough call, and you can only decide according to what you really feel you want to do! Follow your heart! GOOD LUCK !

Congratulations on your pregnancy!!!

My sister is pregnant and due 3 days after my wedding. Of course, it has always been our plan that she be my MOH....but knowing how uncomfortable she will be (granted she goes full term) we both decided that she not take on the duties of MOH. Instead, I'm getting her a corsage and she will have a special chair set up. I know it's not the same but it still feels special to us both.

I agree with the other ladies that you should express your concerns to your friend. You never know how you're going to feel the last few weeks.

Good luck!
