bridal party question

I am in the very early planning stages......so I'm going to have many many questions....I am so glad I found this board.

My question today is about the number of bridesmaids and who they should be. Can I ask how big your bridal partys are. And who did you pick as bridesmaids (friends, sisters ect)?

My fiance has a few sisters and sister in law and nieces he wants them all in the party. I also have a sisiter and two best friends. Our wedding is not going to be overly large. Is this too many bridesmaids...and how do I cut it down if it is....pull names from a hat lol

Re: bridal party question

Everyone's wedding is different. You should choose what you and your FH feel comfortable with. I have 7 BM, 2 Jr BM and a FG. My FH has 8 GM and a RB.

I chose friends, my FSIL and our fg is FH's cousin's daughter.

FH chose his brother, my brother, his cousin, and friends.

Edited to say: my FH also chose my 2 stepbrothers as ushers.

Re: bridal party question

My bridal party is my younger sister and 2 friends. My fiance choose his twin brother and two friends. And, we're having my 2 nieces act as ringbearer/flowergirl.

We both have other siblings and siblings-in-law, I have 2 other nieces (the older sisters of the little girls I chose), and we have more friends and relatives that could have been considered. Some people balked at the fact that Peter didn't choose his cousins, since his sister had them in her wedding.

Here's the deal, if you want a small party you pick who you want to stand up for you (girls), and he picks the guys close to him. No picking out of hats, you should get to have the girls stand up for you that you want, not b/c they are related to him. These girls will be the ones to go dress shopping with you, plan your bachelorette party, plan your shower, etc. Don't pick hastily.

Then expain to others that you are having a small wedding party, and you can't have everyone in the party or you won't have anybody to watch

We decided to put our other siblings in our ceremony by having them give readings. Then, the 2 little girls who we didn't pick had it explained to them (they are 15 and 12) and we are giving them gifts on the wedding day along with their sisters.

You can also honor people in other ways-have them help with favors or if one has a talent ask them to perform it if they want to.

Really, pick your bridal party carefully. They can be a source for a lot of headaches or a lot of wonderful memories. Or both.

Re: bridal party question

I am having 1 MOH (my sis)
My cousin BM
My FSIL BM
My best friend BM
2 work friends BMs
1 old student who's now a friend BM
Fh's niece FG
So that's 8 girls, the FH is having
1 BM
6 GM
Ring bearer

Wow, I didn't realize we had that many people until now! I go with the more the merrier kind of attitude, but don't feel bad about not including every one. Really make sure the people you pick are close to you and that they mean something. Never pick just because they're family, that loses the meaning.

Re: bridal party question

I am having 5 bms, 5 gm, and 3 kids.
Do not pick until the last minute! This is the advice I have gotten from everyone I know who has gotten married- if they could change one thing it would be their bridal party. I know you get engaged and get excited and start asking people- I would wait until you have to.

Re: bridal party question

MY FH has 2 brothers, 1 sister(all of who are married), & his son. I only have 1 little sister(10), but if I was to include all his family members(who are all out of state) I would have to include my 2 cousins(who are like siblings) & several friends! And personally I did not want a big wedding party, so I incorporated people in other ways.

I ended up w/ 2 MOH(I planned on 1, but my BF is flighty & another girl really stepped up to the plate for me, so when I realized I couldn't do the wedding without her I asked her to e co-MOH), 2 BM(FH's brothers), 1 Jr.BM(my sis), & 1 Jr.GM(FH's son). Everyone else is playing other important roles(I have 2 readers, an acting day of coordinator, & some welcomers/seaters since we have no ushers).
