Can the bridal shower just consist of the brides 'side' family & friends and his mom & sister? He has aunts who dont really know my daughter (the bride) .One aunt showed up with 3 kids to the engagement party and didn't even give her nephew a gift!! also, one of FH cousins and her daughter was supposed to be in bridal party. she & daughter backed out because they were not even willing to try on the dress my daughter & 2 other girls picked!! They said the dress is ugly! leaving my daughter with 2 MOH and and best man & 5 ushers. Bill Levkoff style 555, color sable. She doesn't want people like that at her shower, where her godmother & i will probably have to pay for it all.She said she'd just wants his mom and sister. I don't know what's right to do.

honestly, if his close family members will be at the wedding then they're going to expect to get invited to the shower and might get insulted. Plus his mom and sister are going so they might feel insulted to see their family wasn't invited and might feel a bit left out

Re: bridal shower?
This is a question to ask his mother. I think it's important to let the groom's mother determine who to invite from her side.

Re: bridal shower?
Normally women from both sides of the family are invited.

As the mother of the groom I would be very insulted and hurt if I didn't get to invite my family and friends to the shower.....especially if they are all going to be invited to the wedding. You don't discriminate against his side of the family because they don't know you or your daughter very well. They may want to know her and this is a great way for them to get acquainted.

No problem. I have 2 brothers and no sisters. I would be really upset if my brother was getting married and I wasn't invited to the shower bc I was on the 'wrong' side.

Re: bridal shower?
My family does things a bit differently than most and I like it this way [prob cause I grew up with it].
My mother comes from one of 6 sisters, so whenever one of the aunts gets married/pregnant, or one of their children does, all of my Mom's sisters and her throw the girl a bridal shower or a baby shower [depending on the event].
This is the way it was done for me, and my aunts invited my MIL and that was it.
So, my MIL wanted her side of the wedding invites to be invited, so she held a mini-shower in her home a few months later for that side of the family to participate in and my MIL invited my mother to attend.
The balance worked out and no one was offended.

i agree. perhaps find out from the MOG about inviting their side---if you work together, then it could turn out to be a perfect chance for the bride to get to know some extended family.

Thank you.....I was speaking from my heart and how I would definitely feel. The hurt that can come from leaving out the groom's family can lead to resentment which will make for a very unhappy future for the couple. It is not worth it to do that.
