My FMIL wants to throw me a bridal shower. I TOTALLY appreciate the thought, gesture, time out into planning etc. But.....I have been married before and I am not sure that its appropriate. I know Im marrying a different person and the past is the past......... I told my FH I was ok with it but I wouldnt register anywhere. He thinks that I absolutly should bc we will be celebrating the start of our new life and it is ok to register for things we want/need.
What do you all think?

I think FH is right...you are starting a new life with him...get rid of old stuff and register for new things....things that will be yours and FH's. I think that if you didn't do it it would be taking away from your FH's experience. Go for it....who doesn't want more things????

I totally agree but I just didnt want anyone in his family to think that I was being greedy you know? I want him to have the experience he wants and deserves.

YOu are right, the past is the past and I am moving on to bigger and better! I just didnt want to give anyone the wrong idea. Maybe I am just being sensitive about my 'mistake'

That's understandable...I am sure no one will think you are being greedy or anything like that...things happen and you are happy and with the right man now and that is what is important...enjoy it all!!!

Re: Bridal Shower
I understand your conflict and if there is anything I learned fom being in tons of weddings and now planning my own, someone out there will always say something negative. and you can never make everyone happy. But the majority of people are there because they love you and are happy for you.
Here's an experience I went through. My cousin got married the second time -only about 3 years after the first one. And I know that some of my family members were really insulted when she registered for things like very expensive china that people had bought for her only years before (just a different pattern). I also know that for me it was sort of frustrating, because I was so incredibly happy for her, yet I was in the first wedding and expected to spend quite a bit at the second shower (I was in college so any $ was a lot!)
I believe you deserve a shower, you are starting a whole new life. Especially with your FH's family. Everyone is excited for yoU!
Just be concious- or should I say understanding- if people that were with you the first time around don't go all out on gifts. Embrace your new family but maybe just have your FMIL keep it small with your immediate family on yourside.
Isn't wedding planning difficult when it comes to balancing people's emotions!!!
