Re: Bridal Shower

If that's what you want. Personally I didn't want to be involved beyond giving my preferences for places, just because I'm a clean freak and really fussy with food, but I ended up being told everything, so now I may as well plan it too.

it doesn't have to be a surprise, but you shouldn't have to plan your own bridal shower!

Re: Bridal Shower

Please do not plan it. You can not have it be a surprise, mine is not, and can request a date or a place, you can even help people to plan it, but it is considered to be in very poor taste to plan your own. They actually say your mother shouldn't even plan it, because it is asking for a gift. Today moms often step up and plan it, its not looked upon as badly as it was... but you should not plan your own. The last thing you want to do is have yourself as the RSVP contact or the host.

Re: Bridal Shower

I was talking to my MOH & BMs about places to possibly do it but other than that it's on them. I know FH has been talking to my MOH about it, bouncing ideas off one another (we're having men there too).

I did my own. I made and sent out the invites, choose the place and time. The only surprise were the games played (my cousin coordinated that).

Re: Bridal Shower

I'm doing everything myself. I picked the place, decor, cake, souvenirs, invitations, etc.

My BM's are doing the games but they email me their ideas so that won't be a surprise either.

Re: Bridal Shower

I wouldn't let guests know you planned it. It may look like you are asking for gifts. My family is pretty strict about this. My mom won't throw me one either. My girls are throwing me one, and my aunt will probably throw one.

Re: Bridal Shower

I actually think its a little tacky to have a party for yourself where you get a lot of gifts. It used to be bad etiquette for even the family of the bride to throw the shower. It doesn't have to be a total surprise but you don't have to plan it and throw it yourself. With all of the wedding planning, you also have enough to worry about it.
