Bridal Shower??

Bridal Shower??

So, I'm a little bit confused about the bridal shower. I really want to have one, and it seems like it's pretty much the norm, but my sister/MOH is acting weird, saying it's up to her and I may not have one. So what's the etiquette here? She's not really into my wedding at all, since she's older and not even in a relationship, so this has all been really hard. Should I talk to her about it or should I go to my mom to see if she will plan it...or is it just totally inappropriate for me to get involved? I don't want to seem selfish or anything. In truth, I like the idea of the intimate party and the games more than the gifts, anyway. But anyway, I feel like I keep seeing conflicting information about the bride being involved...a lot of brides on here seem to have been surprised...but I've heard that it's very common for the bride to help plan the shower. Can anyone help me??

i think its totally fine if a bride is involved in the organization and planning of her shower.
especially is you want one, and ur sister doesnt seem too into the whole wedding thing, i'd definitly talk to her about it. just tell her how you would like to have one, and that you would help her is she needs it, and maybe ur mom could talk to her too and see what she plans on doing if you feel a little uncomfortable or something.
i dont think it will seem selfish of you at all. i mean your getting married and this is something that most brides do, so im sure she'll understand. hope it works out!

Your sister could be throwing you off track too, so I would proceed with caution if you are hoping for a surprise. However I would vocalize to your mom and other BMs if you have them that you are concerned and really want a bridal shower and will be disappointed if you do not have one.

I was very involved in the planning of mine since my MOH lives in Paris.

I was involved with planning mine. I see nothing wrong with it. I say talk to your mom about it - your sister could be saying these things just to throw you off so you're surprised though.

I would def say to talk to your mom about it. A lot of girls are involved in their showers now, so if you sister doesn't want to do a ton of planning, you and your mom could do it together. Your sister could also be trying to keep it a surprise so you never know, so talking to your mom should help regardless.

She's definitely not throwing me off. She told me straight out today that she's not gonna do it...and she didn't even know that it is sometimes a surprise. She says family members aren't supposed to throw them...even if they're the maid of honor. ???? I've never heard this. Is it true?

Usually the mother and the bridal party put it together. Sometimes the bride takes part in the planning process as well. I would def. talk to your mom as well about this.
