I am having a small wedding of 50. We will be having an engagement party. We won't be having a rehearsal dinner.
My mom says I shouldn't have a bridal shower. She thinks it is wrong because it is asking too much of people. But isn't it typical to have a bridal shower?

yes it typical but it does mean you have to do anything you dont want... its you and your FH's special moment! do what you feel is best for you, him and the pockets of thoese contributing.. .
i agree with your mom but if thats what you really want .. then thats what will be!!! CONGRATS bella and good luck!

Re: Bridal Shower?
I am also having a 50 person wedding. I'm not having a bridal shower. Mostly because its pricey and I don't want to impose on my family since they are already helping me out with some wedding costs...and also because I don't have a bridal party (I'm an only child) and very few female friends..If I was forced to have a shower, only 5 people would show up because my best friends are guys!!!
Dont feel pressued to have a Shower just because everyone else does it..Stick to your gut instincts.

Re: Bridal Shower?
PErsonally, I would still want to have a shower...
Unless you register before the e-party and do an e-party/jack and jill shower type thing instead?
For financial reasons we decided against the eparty, so I WILL DEF be having a shower... so maybe your mom has a point, but I migh try to combine the two somehow.

Re: Bridal Shower?
You could have a pretty small shower with just the nearest and dearest. We had a very small impromptu engagement party, but I'll be having a big shower!

You don't have to have one. My mom didn't and other people in my family haven't. Unless someone throws me a surprise one, which I doubt is happening, I'm not having one either. I've been out on my own for years so I have enough house stuff. Plus, I had an engagement party which most people don't have.

We're not having an engagement party, but I will be having a shower. It's something my mom wants to do for me. It's all between her and my MOH. There probably won't be many people there though.

Re: Bridal Shower?
I had a pretty big engagement party and I'm still having a shower. I think as long as they are spaced out enough, it's fine. My engagement party was in August and my shower will be in the spring sometime. But ultimately, do what you want to do - if your guests can't afford to go to the shower, then they won't.
