Re: Bridal Party

I'm assuming you mean Bridal Party as in your Bridesmaids & Groomsmen? You are really only responsble for getting them a gift to say thank you for being in the wedding. They are responsible for their own attire; make up jewlrey/accesories (usually this is the gift)

It's not a seperate wedding event/party. Unless you're talking about the engagement party or bridal shower?

Re: Bridal Shower

Ahh ok-cause i was getting confused! LOL!

For the bridal party-you just ask your closest friends but you really don't HAVE to have a BP-i know someone that had a lavish wedding in NYC with no bridesmaids or groomsmen...

For the Bridal Shower-your Maid of Honor & other brides maids or your Mom; or other close female friends/relatives throw this party-usually daytime...lunch...in your honor where they 'shower' you with gifts for the wedding. You invite any close friends you want there (typically those invited to the wedding) it's advised on all the wedding ettiqute boards not to just invite people for gifts that aren't invited to the wedding.

You don't pay for it since it's thrown by someone else for you . Just show up :)

Also-Jack & Jill showers are popular these days...if you don't want to limit the guests to just girls; your fiance can attend with his groomsmen/friends/family and you can just have a nice party out of it. Eat; drink and open gifts.

Re: Bridal Party

What is a Bridal Party?
The Bridal Party (BP) is basically those girls and guys you ask a part of your wedding ceremony. You maid of honor is usually someone who you feel is closest to you and who is always there for you when you need them (like your sister or BFF). The Best Man your fiance's closest friend. The bridal party also includes the bridesmaids and groomsmen who are those people you would like to stand up for you at your wedding. Flower Girls and Ring Bears are also included in the Bridal (though not necessary). Actually, you don't even have to have a full bridal party if you don't want to. You could just have a Maid of Honor (MOH) and a Best Man act as witnesses at the wedding and be there to sign your marriage license as witnesses.

What do you do in it?
The main players in the BP are the MOH and Best Man. MOH's responsibilites are to help you plan your wedding, assist you when shopping for your dress and the bridesmaid dresses, help coordinate the shower with the bridesmaids and your mother, help plan the bach party. Best man basically just helps plan the bach party for the groom and maybe help rally the guys when it comes time to get tuxes. All attendants should be responsible to pay for their own dresses/tuxes/shoes/accesories/etc.

Who do i invite?
You can have whoever you want in your BP (close family members, close friends). And you can have as many or as little as you want (some girls have just 1 MOH and 1 Best Man, others have a 20 person BP). It's all up to you. Keep in mind that it is customary to buy a gift for each one person in your BP as a thank you for being there for you during the whole wedding planning process so the more people you have, the more gifts, the more $$. Plus, as far as the Bridesmaids go, since you have to pay for their bouquets, and that could add up, you may want to take that into account when deciding how many girls you want.

Do i pay for everthing?
What you would pay for (and girls add on if I am missing something):
- Bridal Party gifts
- Bouquets for the Bridemaids
- Boutineers for the groomsmen
- Gifts for Parents
Some girls, as part of the gift, would pay to have their Bridesmaids nails done or pay for their hair & makeup or their day of jewelry, but that is not necessary or expected (at least it shouldn't be).

This sums it up for the definition of a Bridal Party.
A Bridal Shower on the other hand is a party thrown for you by either your family, Bridal Party or both. You register at your favorite store or stores. Such as, Bed, Bath and Beyond or Target...and so on...Just pick out things you may need for your house/apartment or for yourselves. Your guests can buy gifts from these registries at the store. You can give your list of people you would like to invite to your family or Bridal Party, whomever is hosting it and they will send the invitations out. Most Bridal Showers are a 'Surprise'. That's the best part! Games are usually played like, Bridal Bingo....etc.
Good luck with your planning....If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me!

Re: Bridal Shower

Hi V,

I think Bridal Party and Bridal Shower are 2 different things. The Bridal Party is the group of people who will be with you on your wedding day...the maid of honor, best man, bridesmaids, etc..This is entirely up to you whether you (1) WANT a bridal party and (2) how MANY people you want as part of your Bridal Party.

I am not having a bridal party because FH and I come from small families. I am an only child and so is FH. We will only have 1 matron of honor (maid of honor is for single girls, 'matron' is for married women) and 1 best man (FH's best friend). I am also not having a Bridal Party (BP) because I just don't have the budget for it.

When you have bridesmaids, you will find yourself in a position where you will want to (or be forced to) PAY for bridesmaids dresses (think, each dress is around $100-400 each and multiply that by the # of bridesmaids)...and also you need to pay for Tuxedos for Groomsmen! Then you might want to pay for their hair and makeup, gifts..etc..and if you are having a big BP, you will need to get a LIMO to transport all these people to the RH/Church and back...By the time you add it all up, you are spending at least $1,000 or more for these things.

As to a BRIDAL SHOWER - thats just an extra party you have before the wedding to announce that you are the bride and for other women to come and 'shower' you with gifts..This is where you have a chance to share your Registry and have your Gift preferences announced to your guests. Typically, a bridal shower is done anywhree from 1-5 months BEFORE the actual wedding.

I also am not having a bridal shower because I don't want to put my mom in charge of the expenses and I don't think I can actually drum up enough females to attend (most of my friends are guys, I never really had close female friends, for some reason I was very much into my tom boy lifestyle)...

Typically the brides mother/family PAYS for the shower,
(which include catering costs, food, entertainment, invitations, etc). The shower is supposed to be a SURPRISE for the brides...

Anyways.. i hope this was somewhat helpful!!
