My sister in law has been married 2 years now. Her and her husband had a very small ceremony immediate family only. This means she had no shower no bach party no rehearsal dinner no nothing. her and her husband recently purchased a house. The two have been living with her mom for the past couple of years which means they have nothing for their new home. My question is can we throw her a surpirise housewarming party like a bridal shower. The only difference is she would not register we would either register for some essentials for her or just let people know it is for their new home. Is this tacky????? Would you go and willingly participate??? It is so hard buying a home on long island and everyone could use some help with the little things.

Re: bridal shower after wedding ???
Why not throw them a housewarming party instead of saying bridal shower?

Re: bridal shower after wedding ???
I want it to be a housewarming but a surprise like a bridal shower. I want just women because guys hate that stuff and i want her to get all the stuff you would get at a bridal shower. I would not say bridal shower on invitation and it would not be at her home becaus ethey have not moved in yet they are renovating first and that is taking alot of their money

Re: bridal shower after wedding ???
I think the best way to do it is to have an organized housewarming party that she knows about...and to invite everyone. Its alright to register for a housewarming party and I'm sure since people know the situation they'll be more than happy to shell out.

i guess it wont work she is not the type to register for a housewarming party. She would never ask people to buy her stuff. She is a great persona nd wish we could do something it just ***** that they will move in with nothing

I think that it is a great idea. I don't think it tacky. I have never heard about this before but it's the thought behind this.

I think it should be a housewarming, not a shower. Her wedding passed.

Re: bridal shower after wedding ???
I think she could have a shower. I wouldn't feel put out if I were invited because she never had one, so it's not like people have already bought her gifts. What if you call it a house shower? People might have wanted to give her gifts but felt strange because she had such a small wedding. Because of the economy, I know a lot of people (me included) who are having small weddings and planning on doing something bigger when they can get the money together. I think her loved ones should understand.

I think this is a beautiful idea!!!!!!!!!!! It's so lovely you want to do this for her!
I think doing it as a surprise is a lovely touch if you think you could pull the whole thing off! You can call it a shower if you want -- why not? If I were her friend, I'd love to be there for her and be a part of it.
I wouldn't do it if she were pregnant or something and you can do a baby shower instead, but if that's not an option or something that's going to happen any time soon, I say go for it. What a good person you are to care about her like that!!!

I say just put it out there as a house warming... 2 years later a bridal shower?? Idk.... Also at a BS you get lingerie and sexy items- so that wouldn't help her at all if she is mainly needing things for the house...

would she register if you told her you were throwing her a shower.... tell her that someone mentioned how she never had a shower and you because of her moving you thought it would be a good idea to do it now...

yeah but those sexy items are like 3 things maybe... thats not going to be significant enough to effect it
ETA: It doesnt really matter what the party is called... its still a party to give her household items
