Bridal shower alternatives

I'm not doing a typical registry since I already live with my fiancé and own a condo, so, we decided to try honeyfund instead. I guess I'm just over the whole bridal shower thing and I really don't wanna do the typical brunch and playing bingo thing. I was talking to my mom about it and thinking of doing a cocktail party somewhere or something 'tropical themed' to match the honeyfund registry. Has anyone ever been to a bridal shower that wasn't your typical type of shower? I've gone to jack and Jill type baby showers that were more like a party and had a blast. I guess I'm wanting to do something more long those lines then your typical bridal shower routines. Any thoughts or suggestions?

i wouldn't recommend honeyfund personally, but that is just my opinion. Honeymoon registries are totally fine, but my cousin did honeyfund and my family really didn't like that when they bought an excursion for them that it was just money that could be spent on anything. So technically they weren't actually buying an excursion at all and the bride and groom could end up using that money towards groceries or something lol...they were basically transferred to the couple's paypal account which was kind of tacky- there are other honeymoon registries that allow your bridal shower attendees to actually purchase a specific excursion or something for your honeymoon and know that the money will actually go towards the item they are buying. also, i believe honeyfund gets a commission through your registry and you don't actually get every dollar that was given to you.

i love the idea of a honeymoon registry though, especially for couples who live together already.. check out traveler's joy, that is a really good website for registries :)

I love the idea of a cocktail party! I wish mine was an evening, cocktail party. It was traditional brunch, totally perfect, but not my style. I mean the brunch wasn't, the way they dressed it up was nice!

I did a brunch, but no games or anything like that. I tried to get out of opening presents too, but that didn't happen lol. If I were you, I'd talk to my bridal party and tell them you want something a little different. Head to pinterest, and pin some things that you like that your bridal party can see and go off of.

that sounds really nice & fun! i like that you want to go with the theme :)

we were going to use honeyfund, but then booked our honeymoon with liberty travel- who also offers a honeymoon registry. The only thing is that you would have to have your shower before your final payment date, to ensure you dont overpay! A few other honeymoon places (disney? sandals?) may have this option too. I think honeyfund (as a purchaser) is a little confusing!!

My friend had a dj at her shower! Her and the girls all danced the afternoon away with cocktails.... clear cellophane on all the presents, so she didn't have to open them and they had a BLAST! Sounds like a great time :)

yeah sandals has one- we made a registry though them. I think Sandals uses honeymoonwishes.com which I really like so far!

Bridal shower alternatives

For my shower I had a jack and Jill backyard BBQ and it was awesome. I told everyone that I didn't want anything traditional, I wanted it to be a party, and we had a great time. Tell people that you dont want a traditional shower and let them come up with ideas.

We also did a honeymoon registry through sandals which was really nice. We registered at Macy's too and I thought we had kept it small (about 55 thigs) to encourage people to give to the honeymoon registry, but only like 8 or 10 people gave gifts on it.
