bridal shower- Did you know before hand?

My bridal shower is the sunday and my mother told me everything about it. Now I'm nervous b/c I don't think I can act surprised! Anyone else have/had a similar expierence? I am dreading the shower and just wish I can skip it. I know it is supposed to be fun, but I hate surprises (even though it's not anymore). Everyone is going through such fuss about the party and making me happy, I feel guilty about knowing about it.

Just had to vent.

thanks!
Kelly

Re: bridal shower- Did you know before hand?

I was totallly surprised, I don't know how. I've never been so shocked in my life. Probably your mom will tell everyone that you know about it, so they won't expect you to be that surprised. You may still be surprised to see how nice the room is, or just exactly who is there. Either way, you will enjoy it, good luck!

Re: bridal shower- Did you know before hand?

I wanted to know the date, for a few reasons, so mine wasn't a surprise. I was very anxious before mine too (I guess the downside of knowing beforehand!) but once I got there, I was fine. A few people jokingly yelled 'surprise', but that was it - some didn't get why I wanted to know about it, but I just don't get the tradition! LOL

Just remember that all those people are your friends and family, and they're there to celebrate with you!

Re: bridal shower- Did you know before hand?

My shower was not a surprise. I knew about 3 weeks before.
I was feeling the same way as you are. I posted too and got many supportive responses from the brides here, as usual!
Everyone except my FH thought they were going to surprise me.
Actually I came into the shower by a different door than the expected and I surprised them !
When they asked me if I was surprised I told them the truth. I didn't want to pretend. I told them it was ok, and that I appreciated the effort. It wasn't a big deal.
I wasn't sure if I would like the shower or not. I felt greedy(FH and I have a house and everything we could need )
It turned out that I had a great day and enjoyed seeing all my friends and family. We played lots of games and had fun.
My FMIL said,'It was the most fun I have ever had at a shower'
Just relax and have a great time! The advantage to knowing is you can make sure your dressed nicely and have your makeup on!

Re: bridal shower- Did you know before hand?

Kelly,
I had the same feelings as you with my shower. I was glad it wasnt too much of a surprise because I was quite overwhelmed as it was. The day flies by so quickly. Enjoy!!!!

Re: bridal shower- Did you know before hand?

I didn't have mine yet. I think I know when it is though because it's always obvious when someone wants to get-together in advance on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon.

Re: bridal shower- Did you know before hand?

I figured mine out. I was nervous for days before. I didn't 'act' surprised but I also didn't discuss the shower with anyone except Stef before hand. I didn't want to ruin it for others.

Re: bridal shower- Did you know before hand?

I just had my shower last weekend and I had a feeling it would be that day. I was a little nervous too but once you see all your friends and family that are there you will be sooo happy. I was surprised to see some of the people who came. I am glad I had an idea because I don't like surprises and the day really flys by. Good Luck to all!!

Re: bridal shower- Did you know before hand?

I knew about mine for many reasons - I lived out of town, so the shower could only be planned during one of the weekends that I was flying home.
I was able to narrow it down b/c my silly friends all made the mistake of telling me they were going out of town the weekend that I was coming home - seriously, everyone could NOT all be going away at the same time! Also, my friend that brought me to my shower made up some lame story about taking me out to lunch b/c she had a gift certificate to this restaurant....I saw right through that!

However, there were some surprises that day - mainly who attended and who didn't, the gifts, oh the gifts! and best of all, my fiance took a red-eye flight from California to be at the restaurant when I walked in. He planned the trip at the last minute b/c he knew how important it was to me that he was part of the day. I burst into tears when I saw him, and my bridal party, my Mom and my aunt got all weepy, too. It was a really great moment!
Enjoy your day...it goes so fast!

Re: bridal shower- Did you know before hand?

Thaks everyone! I'm still nervous and don't want to ruin it for my MOH and BM's. Also my FMIL is SO excited about surprising me (my FH told me this) and I just don't want to burst their bubbles.

I know I'll have a great time. Right now it's like waiting in the Dr.'s office- that nervous feeling in your stomach. I just want the 'surprise' part to be over with so I can enjoy the rest.

Best of luck to you all!

(just practicing my 'surprised' face.

Kelly
