bridal shower etiquette?

i know i won't be having a bridal shower for a while, but i was wondering- do i have to invite all the women who were at my engagement party to the shower? it's about 15 people (FFIL's cousins- i met most of them for the first time at the e-party - and we have been together for over 5 years!)

I don't think you have to invite every person you invite to the wedding. Its usually the brides friends and family members of the bride and groom.

I did not invite girlfriends/wifes of his friends and some people i only see occassionally.

I always heard it was close friends and both sides of the family.

That's a tough call....I invited 'almost' all the women to my shower. There is nothing against the women I didn't invite. I just want it to be small. It's mostly family that I invited!

we went for close friends and all family members
JMO but you do not want to seem like you are asking for gifts. my mom invited only her close friends....

if you were having a small wedding, think of who you would not invite and I personally would not invite them to the shower. I would not invite my guy friend's girl friends unless i was friends with them. jmo

You don't have to invite all of the women being invited to the wedding, but you also can not invite women who will not be invited to the wedding, like co-workers.

I don't think you should invite everyone who is invited to the wedding. Remember you are imposing for a gift so many people are not insulted if they are not invited (some prefer it) and don't invite people not invited to the wedding.

I have heard that it's close friends and family. I am still on the fence about co-workers, but if I do invite them it will just be to the wedding.

FH thinks I should invite EVERY female, but I don't feel comfortable with some of them, so I've made my own etiquette and settled on this:

All female family members from both sides - no exceptions.

My female friends.

SOs of my male friends that I actually feel close to.

Any female friends of my FH's that I actually enjoy hanging out with.

Female co-workers who are invited to the wedding.

Nope. There is no rule that says every woman invited to the wedding should be invited to the shower, and it's really often improper to do so. There are some people such as coworkers who you want to ivnite to teh wedding but don't feel close enough to invite to the shower and that's fine. It also takes away the expense and expectation of them giving you another git, especially if they're not close to you. RThe rule is anyone invited to the shower must be invited to the wedding with the exception of work showers, etc.

So no, the invite list of the wedding an e-party don't have to dictate the shower. Ususally it's just the closest family and frineds..

I only put family and close friends on my shower guest list. This was not the time to meet my bosses wife, kwim?

The rule is everyone invited to any wedding related party (showers, eparties, etc) should also be invited to the wedding.
