My mom is paying for my shower (should be in March sometime), anyway she wants to get something for myself and FH that is more of a personal mother of the bride idea, rather than just something off the registry. We registered at Macy's, Fortunoff and BBB.
Do you girls have any clever, original ideas that you'd like to share?
What did your mom's give to you on your shower day? TIA!

Re: Bridal Shower Gift Help
My mother paid for my shower too! Aside from that, my mom bought me all my bedding and fancy pillows that was between $100-1200. And also bought me a few hundred $ in lingerie [for the HM!], cute wedding BRIDE & GROOM teddy bears; and a small basket of little stuff off the resgirty-like throw pillows, sugar & creamer, cloth napkins, tabeclothes, lenox ice bucket, and couple of gadgets for the kictchen, a few frames I registered for...and also chipped in when I had a work bridal shower to get me and DH a BBQ grill.
My MIL, shockingly, [since she is such a practicle person] got me my crystal stemwear. I registered for 12 goblets, 12 flutes and 12 wine. She got me 8 of each which is extremely generous, even though they were only $25/per glass.
My DH's cousin - her mother bought her all of her china and threw the shower.
My friend who is getting married in July [she's an 07 bride here on LIW] her mother is buying her all of her china as a bridal shower & wedding gift.
And my other girlfriend, who is an 08 bride, her mother is buying all her bedding.
Traditionally, I think even though the MOB pays for it [or sometimes the MOH] pays for the shower and helps, the mother usually gets some or all of the china OR the bedding. *Its also what you can afford!*
HTH!

Re: Bridal Shower Gift Help
Thanks for the info I should tell my mom to get me our bedding or our china, but its very expensive and since she's paying for the shower, I'd feel bad. I'll mention it to her. Thanks again!!

Re: Bridal Shower Gift Help
Honestly, it all depends on what you're mom wants to spend. My mom asked me what I really wanted and what I wanted above all - I told her, well I want all my kitchen appliances that are neccessities, and I want at least HALF of my crystal steamwear...but if I had to chose between pretty fancy bedding and crystal stemwear and bedding, I'd chose bedding!

Re: Bridal Shower Gift Help
I know my mother plans on buying all of our china for us as our special shower gift (aside from paying for the bulk of the shower).

Re: Bridal Shower Gift Help
mom is paying for my shower as well...don't know what the gift is yet.
for my 1st wedding, she bought us our silver flatware for an engagement gift, then got the stand mixer I really really wanted for so long - I ALWAYS baked....

Maybe furniture, thats one thing i can think of thats not on the registry, or a tv or something like that...depends how much she wants to spend though.

Re: Bridal Shower Gift Help
The only thing I would also suggest - if she is DEFINITELY set on buying the bedding or the china for that matter, I wouldnt even put it on the registry, I would just pick it out w/ her. I doubt anyone would buy something that 'personal' [like bedding] but I put it on the registry knowing my mom was going to buy it AS SOON as I regerstered, and she did, so i didnt have to worry about anyone else buying it. Some people won't put it on the registry and the mother will just buy it, this way the mother isnt on a specific time frame to buy it, and someone else wont buy it if its on the registry!

Re: Bridal Shower Gift Help
My mom gave us a few things off our registry but she also gave us our nativity set. I loved it! I thought it was a really great idea as this is something you will keep forever. And I'm sure there are tons of price ranges out there so she can spend what she wants. I will always think of her every Christmas as we set up... wonder if that was her plan
Edit...if you are not Catholic I'm sure there is some other sentimental piece that will stick around for a lifetime.
