bridal shower gift opinion needed -UPDATE with gift option?

Original post by pjc92980

ok ladies i need honest opinions (since i am biased)

I received an invite to a bridal shower yesterday...I did not recognize the name. I showed it to FH, he didnt recognize it either. About 10 mins later i figured out who it was for...
FH grew up with this guy and hes getting married in June. FH was close with him about 10 years ago, now they text maybe once a month. In all the time I have been with FH i only met this guy twice - for 15 mins each time and never met the girl (FH met the girl once 2 years ago)

We do plan on attending the wedding but i do not plan on going to the shower (nor do i plan on inviting her to mine). FH and i both agree that it was odd for me to get an invite when i not only dont know her, but wont know ANYONE there.

do i send a gift???
if yes, what price range would you say?
can i send this $13.99 gift from their BBB registry with free shipping or is that too cheap??? gift idea?

ps - these people put their registry cards in with their STD AND wrote down where they are registered on the shower invite. IMHO that was just way too much looking like they are asking for gifts which is why i prefaced this post that i am biased....

EDIT - it is NOT a surprise shower...so i would assume the bride gave the ok on the gust list?

I think that's a little cheap IMO. I would say to spend at least $25, plus a 20% off coupon that's only $20

I think it's fine since you don't know her... she shouldn't have invited you in the first place and it is nice of you to send anything.. I always send something when invited and I can't attend, but I'm not sure what I would do if I didn't know the person.. Sometimes even family members and close friends don't send gifts if they don't come so I would consider anything you send a nice gesture

This happened to me this summer. I thought it was so weird that I got invited to the shower so I just sent a $30 gift from her registry. When the wedding finally came around, I realized why I was invited. She had no friends. The whole wedding was family or the grooms friends. I kinda felt bad. So maybe that's this girls case too.

I agree - a gift card they know how much you spend - if you get a gift and use a coupon - then you're good....

I'd personally send a gift, but something small - a token/gesture. It's not really necessary, but as with any invitation, you should send something.

I don't think I'd spend anywhere near 50 - more like 30 (esp. since you've never even met her.)

First- I wouldn't send a gift if I didn't know this person, but that's just me.

Second- If you were going to send a gift, I think that server would be completely acceptable. There were people who came to my shower, that I am close with, that only gave something like that!

Third- I just learned NOT to assume it's not a surprise shower even if it doesn't say so on the invite. I got one in the mail last week, it didn't say it was a surprise, so i hung it on the fridge. Fine, except that last weekend those friends came to visit and she saw it on my fridge I think. Because later on she casually mentioned how it was a surprise, and she was 'dying' to know more about it. I was like, ohh I thought if it didn't say Suprise on the invite, it wasnt. She said that her mother, sister and herself all assume that any shower (bridal or baby) IS a surprise, so there was no need to write it on there. WOOPS. My bad.

OMG that is so something i would do! if people are making it a surprise it needs to be listed somewhere on the invite! if i knew the girl i def woulda mentioned oh i got the shower invite or somethign along those lines and i woulda blown the surprise.

I would send that gift just to be nice. I mean what can it hurt 15 dollars. I dont really think its right of her to send cards out if she is fishing for gifts but hey what can you do she already sent them out.

if it were me I would send a gift. The BP or Mom probably invited all the woman who were invited to the wedding, not reallizing you didn't really know her.

I would probably send about a $30 gift. Personally I would think it rude to not send a little something. But that's just me.

I second this.

I would send a gift, but only spend between $30-$50.

I would not send a gift, but on the wedding day bring a card with money in it.
