We are planning a cocktail bridal shower with a DJ for around 50 people.
We have asked everyone to wrap in clear. We would like the bride not to open each gift as this will take time away from the fun and dancing.
Is it rude not to have the bride open each gift? We were thinking of placing a sticker on the gift with the givers name, placing it on the gift table and then displaying the gifts.

Re: Bridal Shower Gifts
I've been to showers where no gifts were opened at all. So I guess it is a matter of preference.

Re: Bridal Shower Gifts
I saw this on a website:
[Honoree] requests unwrapped gifts.
Help save a tree and leave your gift unwrapped.
Help us go green in style and leave your gifts unwrapped.

But how do you pack up china, etc? It has to be packed...then you just get a box?

I mean, I'm not huge on opening everything...but some people love to watch it. Especially if they put a lingerie surprise in the box, etc.

Re: Bridal Shower Gifts
Personally, I think its kind of rude to just get the gifts on a table and not open them; I feel like the whole point of the shower is to ooh and aah over the gifts.
Then again, I've heard of ppl doing the clear thing so maybe I'm just too darned traditional LOL! Even though it's boring I like to see the bride's face when she (eventually) gets to my present

Re: Bridal Shower Gifts
even though i HATE sitting through the opening of the gifts....many people like it. Also the people have spent all their money and time to give the gifts and attend, they get excited when the bride gets to their gift.
If the clear thing is done, I feel ike the bride should still lift each one up and thank the people. It will save time to not have to take the paper off anyway.
Even though, opening the gifts for the bride is prob the most fun part. I'm thinking it has to be like Christmas, except you are the only one with gifts!

Re: Bridal Shower Gifts
A cocktail bridal shower sounds amazing! My FH family does not drink at all so that one is out for me...
Regarding the gifts, I am torn with this one also. I kind of selfishly want to open the gifts so:
1. I have help throwing out all the wrapping paper 2. I have help writing down what each person got me 3. I think it will be fun and I know I like to see a brides face when she opens my gift.
I guess it is all up to preference and time. If you are having a sit down meal and only have a few games to play, then you might as well fill the time up with opening gifts.

Thank you everyone for your help! I totally understand what everyone is saying about people paying the money for the presents and some people like watching the Bride open the presents!
I am still torn!

Re: Bridal Shower Gifts
these people spend a lot of money on giving us gifts, and i really think they do want to see it opened. i think it is courteous to open all the gifts, just my 2 cents.

ITA. Though to be honest, I think that's just the older generation. With registries and everything, most people KNOW what they're getting. Also, as a guest, I always find it long and boring. As the honoree, I felt under pressure- like I wanted to speed through it so people could go back to enjoying the party, but I didn't want to seem greedy and wanted to take the time to acknowledge each gift. But I know my grandma and aunts wanted me to open each and every single thing!

Re: Bridal Shower Gifts
I went to a shower like this, and everyone loved that they didn't have to sit around watching her open gifts!! it was very classy, everything was on display and could see what was there.
I am mixed about this... I kind of want to open gifts and I kind of don't!

Re: Bridal Shower Gifts
I opened the gifts for my bridal shower, and it was fun, but yes I did feel people got a little bored and would have maybe liked to enjoy the party a little better. I think maybe for my baby shower I will do the clear wrap and look at each gift and announce it instead of opening every one.

Re: Bridal Shower Gifts
I only have been to baby showers so its kind of related. As a guest I love watching them open my gift and taking a picture with them. I feel that some guests may not get time with you at a party and this is a good time to have a quick one on one. Other guests were still having a good time talking to each other and eating while they were opening presents. It's not like everyone has to solely pay attention.
