Bridal Shower Idea

Bridal Shower Idea

My sister was going to rent a room in a restaurant and have a bridal shower. She said closet friends and family and she would have my fiance there. (which my fmil rolled her eyes about) I really don't want her to break her bank account. My fiance and I have a house together and have lots of stuff we need already. I had the idea of a honeyfund. Apparently my fmil thinks its tacky. Do you?
My sister had another idea of getting a limo to tour the wineries which my fiance and I love. However, now it would be a select people. I had mentioned earlier that she thinks bachelorette parties are tasteless. So I don't know if this is too much asking people to do a winery tour (90 buck) as a bridal shower and I will ask some of my friends to go dancing for a bachelorette party? I know my fmil will have something to say because one she won't be invited its mostly the bridal party and friends and two my fiance is invited. I think she goggled her role as the grooms parents and what she is suppose to do and what my parents and sister moh are suppose to do. I found it unfair for my parents to be judged against a set of rules. My parents are not paying for my wedding. Sorry that was a lot....gggrrrrr

IMA it's tacky to specifically ask for money. Since you have a furnished home, why not just have a party but ask that guest donate to your favorite charity

You could always just not register I suppose and have a small lunch party or something. The wine tour ends up being expensive. But if they are not bringing a gift then that's really not a bad idea! Is there anything else you love doing in particular - like for example I went to this cooking school a couple years go and they said that they get bridal showers and pre-bachelorette parties to do a cooking class party. I thought about that for my bachelorette because it's tons of fun!
There's nothing wrong with the honeymoon registry IMO, I'm sure lots of people do that.

I know of people that have done a Honeyfund in the past and I think it is tacky and a lot of people had said something about it, but it is being done more and more. Just my opinion. As for the Winery Tour I think this wont be too much to ask as long as take them coming as their gift.

I think the honeyfund is a great idea. FILs are giving us our honeymoon as a gift, so we are fortunate enough to not need it - but it was something we considered! You get to have an amazing honeymoon and not have to stress about how you are going to pay for it. A friend of my parents had a daughter that did one, and my parents paid for a day of food/drinks for them. If you already have a house, I think it's a perfect idea.

As far as the winery trip, I think it is more of a bachelorette party idea (it's actually what I keep telling my girls I want ) Asking them to pay to go to your shower really isn't something I would do, just my opinion.

Thanks for all your opinions! Its good to hear different perspectives. I can see why you would think its wrong for people to pay for the bridal shower. Also I don't want people to think I'm tacky by asking them to do honeyfund. ah I don't know. I feel like not doing anything and that will be easier! I can only image what my fmil will say. Oh well. Even my fiance is like you have to have a bridal shower. Decisions

We did a Honeymoon registry because we had lived together for a while and had a lot of what we needed. Plus, DH's family and friends are from Maryland, where they give gifts and not money at a wedding....so this allowed everyone to give a gift of an experience, which I personally think it more meaningful, than something that will break. We registered for things were were really going to do, and sent a picture of us doing it in our thank you notes to those people after the wedding. It was a hit. We have a lot of friends with the travel bug, so they thought this was the best thing ever. If you group is a bit more traditional, it might not be a hit.

And we did a small restaurant shower (25 people) and it cost like $600. Did small favors and invites from Vistaprint. It was really fun

I can't see a shower being small if they were to do it. We family thought it was cool but my fiance's family thought a honeyfund was rude and tacky. Get this my mom was discouraging me to have a honeymoon. Said wait until we had more money saved. (We are playing for our wedding) My reasons weren't money. I might be starting my masters in June if I get in and my fiance might (hopefully) starting a new job and he might not get off. Or if he does it will probably be unpaid. Get this my sister said my mom wants to go on a second honeymoon with my father!! What is this her wedding? I think its rude. She should help me out so I can have a hm. Anyways she probably wants me to stay home so I can care for her three dogs. I think not. Even if I don't go on a hm!

Your FH's family can keep their opinions to themselves. This is not their wedding. Do what makes you happy!

A registry is just there to be a guide if someone wants to give you a gift. If they don't want to use it, that's ok too. But why is registering for a tour different than registering for a toaster? It's really not. It was great for us....we blogged our entire Honeymoon too, so people could see us with their gifts. I personally think that giving an event or an experience is more meaningful than a blender....but that's just me.

It was very popular, especially amongst our friends that like to travel. Instead of money, people felt like they were giving us something that we will always remember.
