Bridal Shower - out of town brides..

Bridal Shower - out of town brides..

I basically know when/where my shower is, because I live out of state, and have to fly in for it. It's not till Sept, however I want to get the point across that I really dont want people to bring HUGE boxed gifts - how am I going to get everything back to Florida? I dont want to ask them to ship my gift online really, but what is a polite way to say this. Has anyone else run into this problem? I dont want to get all the gits at the shower, and have to pay hundreds of dollars to ship the gifts down to me in FL. I just need some polite wording for the invite... Thank you!

Hey
If you are just coming in for your shower, are you going to need to use 2 huge bags? Just bring empty luggage, and you'll have all that space to fill w/ gifts on your way home. And check your airlines cost to bring an extra bag. I think it's only like $150. Might be worth it.

oh my god, really? I had thought about doing that, but I dont think I can take time off work to do that. That was really my only other option. I agree with the luggage suggestion, but I am not so sure how much I can actually fit in suitcases. It may be good for towels and sheets, but not for big kitchen things, and stuff. Oh, I dunno.. this is gonna be interesting.
Hey, where in FL are you?

Also remember... You can bring an empty suitcase or two everytime you visit... You'll get it all to FL eventually.

I am in the same boat!! I live in Fort Lauderdale and of course I know when my shower is too. What I am doing is just registering on HoneymoonWishes.com This way people can pay towards your honeymoon like getting you a dinner, massage or plane tix, etc. And when the shower is over, the honeymoon company cuts you a check. You dont actually have to spend the $$ towards the honeymoon.

I love that idea.
But I would feel really weird getting a romantic couples massage from my FMIL!

Although she does give lingerie at the shower acc. to my FSIL's!! Ahhh!!! Not going to be fun opening that gift!

Can you have the person throwing your shower spread the word to have your gifts shipped to FLA?

We live in Los Angeles and my FH's family threw us a gift card shower. It was fun. They wrapped them up in all fancy boxes and we left with A LOT of money to the places we are registered. We now have an envelope filled with cards and we're planning on spending them after the wedding. Plus, we live in a one bedroom apt. and I don't know where I would have put everything!

My SIL is in Florida also and I hosted her shower.

on the invitation, we put:
The bride is registered at xxx and xxxx stores. Please have all large gifts shipped to:
address as the bride will be unable to carry large items on the plane. (or something similar to this).

We had NO problems! People were realyl creative... they printed out pages from the website so she could 'see' her gift. she also got a lot of gift cards to the stores as well as things that were easily packed such as a towels, tablecloths, etc.

Why not have your bridal party ask people to get you gift cards instead for the amount of the gift they want to get you. They can even write the gift they want you to purchase on the gift card.
