My bridal shower is this saturday and i looked at my registry and there is not a lot taken off, so I'm guessing most people are giving my money. What do I do about opening the envelopes? Do I open them at the shower or do I wait until I get home?

Good question. I guess i would wait till later to open them. I wouldn't want to put anyone on the spot.

I only got two money gifts at my shower and I opened them at the shower. I, as a guest, enjoy watching people open the gifts, I don't think its any different for people that give money.

I opened the enveloped there. I just thanked the people. I didn't announce how much anyone gave to us or anything. I felt it was rude to just take the envelope and put it to the side to open later. I just made sure I designated one person to hold them until we got back to the house so they wouldn't get lost.

I agree, but I did not say how much the checks or the gift certificates were for. No matter the dollar amount I said it was a generous gift.

thanks girls. I asked because I went to a shower like 2 years ago where the bride opened the envelopes there and told everyone the amount, which I did not want to do, I think that would be inappropriate.

I would open them at the shower so that I could directly yell at the people who I did not feel gave enough money.
Just kidding.
Traditionally, you open your gifts at the shower... so you wouldn't want to just open up the boxes and then not open up the envelopes. I would just do it at the shower... people obviously know what they gave, you know? It's not like when you get a box with a toaster or whatever in it, you hold it up and everyone goes, 'oooooh, aahhhhh...' you don't have to hold up the check and show everyone the amount... So I say just open the envelopes, and thank the people! And have fun!!!
