Bridal Shower tradition that I'd never seen before but it seems everyone else has
I keep forgetting to ask you ladies about this - I was at a shower that was going along normally when all of a sudden the MOH whipped out these 'props' and read a poem about them as the bride held each one up. I remember a box of pasta being one of them.
For me it was like witnessing a tribal ritual but everyone else in the room seemed to know what was going on; they even knew the poem. I pretended to have a clue, but alas, I did not.
Does anyone know what this is? Am I so out of the loop to be the only one who doesn't?

Yes, it seems like every shower does that now. I have to be honest I tune it out but I do know there is laudry detergent and some other silly but cute things that they use for the poem. Don't feel bad I felt the same way when I saw it for the first time.

I saw this done once, and thought it was cute and funny. However if I had to bare witness again, I think I would find it annoying...

Dear (Bride's Name): You are entering a new ERA There will come a THYME in your marriage when you find (Groom's name) is not always MR CLEAN. But dont send out the S.O.S because he may VANISH. (Groom's name) will always bring you CHEER and you will find that he is you white DOVE. When you are together you will find JOY. So remember your PLEDGE and give him your ALL. To (Bride and Groom) The best of luck & Good Fortune in the years to come. And may (Groom) always be your HONEY

My sisters friends did one at her shower and I still have a bag of junk that needs to be returned to CVS sitting at my house... There was Summer's Eve, Thong Always, Depends, along with the joy, era, and all the rest....These girls made up the story though b/c it was based on Their Relationship and how they met and got engaged it was kinda funny but gets really expensive for the people doing it.

I also think it's cute in the 'I want to puke it's so cute' kind of way.

Yeah, I only saw it once - the LONG version(but thought I may have heard of it before).
And it was not done at mine.

I had a poem at mine, but it came with several bottles of wine, so i loved it! each bottle was to stand for a different stage in our lives together, first meal in our new home, making up after our first fight, non-alcoholic for our first pregnancy...etc, etc. it was really cute, and i'm actually planning on using it for a friend's shower next week

I find it a bit too corny. it's done so often now and it really isn't that ironic anyway. Is it supposed to be funny?

I think so too...I went to a shower where they did the same thing with candles...but i like the wine thing...i agree the other things with the Joy...S.O.S etc does seem kind of cheesy, although I have never seen it done before.

Wow that topped the corny game I came across at the last bridal shower I attended....each guest had to pick an item out of a bag (all were kitchen items and gadgets) and then demonstrate to the bride how to use the item sexually on her new groom, I wanted to run...needless to say the brides mother and mother-in-law were in attendance, the Mom's were the pros at the game....hmmmm
