I have received an invitation to a wedding shower but the couple doesn't have a registry. To make a long story short, it is a very odd situation where the bride's family doesn't want her marrying the groom and the couple is not inviting her family and they don't want them to know when the wedding is, so they took down the registry they had made. Ok, so the invitation says to wrap the present in clear wrapping...that's fine but what am I wrapping? What do you buy for someone who doesn't have a registry? Do I buy a random place setting of china and say, 'I hope you like it!' This is weird and I am lost. Please advise.

That is a weird situation. You have two options reallY:
buy a household item and just attach a gift recipet just in case.
OR get a giftcard to BBB, Macys, etc.

This sounds like your only options.

How well do you know the couple? Do you think you could choose something unique that they may be able to use?
Otherwise, you could just go for something generic and useful or enjoyable, like a lovely frame, pitcher, or even a set of glasses that they might want. But definitely include a gift receipt and get it from somewhere that returns are easy. Or you could email the hosts and see if they can give you some suggestions since they're hiding from their family.
Good luck!

ugh that will be hard and do they realize they will most likely get doubles and triples of stuff and get things they might not like or doesnt go with their stuff.
I would personally stay away from things that is more based on personal taste such as china, and other similar stuff. Also hard bc you'll have to think of something nobody else will get. Maybe something like roly poly glasses since its not something that common, i love them or lolita glasses along with something else. Or a giftcard is a good idea in this situation.

Ooh, this sounds fishy to me! I hope the couple DOES, in fact, receive the gifts! With the way it sounds, I wouldn't put it past the 'family' doing something else with the gifts! (Believe me, I've heard of crazy situations like this before!) Is there a way to assure the couple will get the gift? Can you find out, say what color they're doing their bathroom or bedroom in and pick out something like they did back in the old days, when my mom got married in the 70s?

So odd....the couple could have put a fake date at least. Is there someone that is part of the bridal party that can answer the question or can you ask the person you rsvp to?
Otherwise, cash, gift card or item and gift receipt are the ways to go.

omg they said wrap it in clear wrapping paper when theres no registry lol that is so wierd. Maybe you can call someone in the bridal party and find out what she likes.
Why didnt they just put a fake date on the registry but still leave it up? thats crazy.

Your best bet is a gift card. or gift certificate to a restaurant during their HM.

I think you should either give them cash or a gift card to the store where they used to have their registry

I would probably just end up getting a BBB gift card.
